An okay match but "worst match" of the night in terms of ranking them all
So, that finish. Why?

Match was fine. Worst on the show but perfectly fine.
That finish though was terrible. Made Cody look incredibly lucky and made Hager look like a complete dumbass.

I thought it was inoffensive.
In my head canon, that finish cause Hagerb is dumb. Big dumb blonde muscley man

Between this and that match Cody won after Darby hit the coffin drop, I guess they're trying to establish Cody as a technical wrestling wizard

I don't get the logic in having Cody wrestle every week like he wasn't already bordering on overuse.

The match itself was pretty good, and in a lot of ways they made Hager look good with knocking out the ref and going after Arn.
But man Cody has to stop having matches where he wins by fluke. Part of it was them queuing the Cody music too early, part was also camera angle, but still unless they're getting another match for a definitive win that was meh

They at least tried to set up the ending with a couple "close call" counters into pinfalls (like the sleeper counter). I'd suppose the story was that Hager was desperate enough that he had his finisher locked in and put full force into choking Cody out, finally missing the small window to get his shoulder up.

I don't get the logic in having Cody wrestle every week like he wasn't already bordering on overuse. Which is funny because he didn't wrestle last week, and presumbly won't next week. But it's very WWE-ish in that the perception of how overused he is makes it looks worse than it is. Sort of like how Sheamus and Alberto only had three PPV matches together in 2012, but the memes make it look like a half a year.

I don't get the logic in having Cody wrestle every week like he wasn't already bordering on overuse. Perception can be worse then reality When you feel like someone is wrestling every week when they are not, that isn't good

The Cody stuff to me has to be leading to something. He has had several matches where Arn or his family gets involved, he comes off pompous in promos, or he has gotten incredibly f***ing lucky, and it's intentional, there's no way it isn't at this point.
The match overdelivered because I was expecting a really bland one but they brought it. I admit the "Lose because you don't realize your shoulders are down" match trope isn't my favorite, but I assume they're writing Jake out with him assaulting the ref, and adding to Cody not actually being the most admirable person. I know he sells as a super face, so maybe they'll keep with it, but these are seeds you can plant for a slow burn heel turn...

I both get the idea in having him be the first champion to establish this title but also find myself bored actually watching it. He's done nothing wrong and I don't even think his booking is awful, per say, but it's a lot of Cody on AEW programming and it gets to be a bit much.

I assumed he would if they're going with a suspension angle. Usually any wrestler who assaults a referee gets a suspension angle.

Here is the thing tho, i'm pretty sure Omega has wrestled damn near as much as him but I don't feel like that is the case They need to revamp it a bit with Cody. Wrestle one week then promo like they did the last two weeks. Hell, do a quick squash match he doesn't need a 10 min fast pace match everytime. Cody shouldn't just be barely beating everyone. Some people he needs to smoke In saying that. Him and Hager was better then I assumed it would be

I get it For me personally, I know when I see him it is at min a 10 min segment or promo. He doesn't do squash matches or leave me wanting for more. Everything is "extra" with him. Less should be more with Cody He's over no doubt without question. Fans love him. But this could wear thin at points and that minority number will grow if they don't switch it up

Some people he needs to smoke I dunno for me he didn't almost lose to Quen or Starks. They got stuff in but Cody beat them with one CrossRhodes each. I don't mind they getting a decent 8-10 minute match length like that, it really depends on how long he holds it.

A main event with Quen at that. Doesn't feel necessary. He has a formula he needs to shake a bit

I think Cody's going to be a super-face JUST long enough to get someone built up to fill in his slot on the card. I have a feeling Darby Allin may have been the person primed for that spot, but given recent events, I figure the rocket is going to get put on OC.
