I felt at the time and in rewatching it recently I felt Rey should have gotten a longer run than less than two hours. But if Rey is getting a longer run to summer slam does del Rio still win MITB and just not cash it in at summer slam ? Correct. I'd say he holds it to Hell in a Cell and cashes in after the Awesome Truth chaos at the end of the show (which was really the last great exciting different moment of this period), and then Punk-Del Rio happens at Survivor Series and then we get the massive Punk reign. I haven't gone back and re-watched this since the Punk stuff went down with Colt. I have happy memories of watching the PPV live that night with people, but now it's hard to look at pre-UFC-era Punk and not see the road he'd eventually go down as a person. Yeah those correspondences we saw between showed punk in a very poor light. Colt cabana went out on a limb for punk and punk figuratively severed the limb with a saw. I like cm punk in ring but some of the real life punk does make him sound like a hard person to be friends with.

It did but in some cases, they took the wrong lessons, which they seem to do with most things. Can't believe they pissed away a Cena vs. Rey Title match on TV. That should've main evented Summerslam. It's no secret I've never really liked Cena after his "face turn", but it was crap like that that had me feeling like Mugatu in Zoolander with "He's got one look!" For me it was "How can anyone not see John Cena is a heel?!" Which I blame Vince for, since Vince's idea of a babyface is an asshole self-serving dbag heel, but man, Cena did Mysterio dirty in all of that. Plug any actual heel in there and it'd be a dick move that Michael Cole would lose his shit over on commentary. As for Punk, I loathe the dude, and think he's incredibly overrated, but I will never argue that this was the night he should have been given the torch and carried the company into the next decade as the top guy.

As good as wrestling gets. If I had to pick somewhere as a “series finale” for WWE this would be it.

Cena didn't make the match or even demand it. The people in charge demanded it happen that week... and that wouldn't have even happened if they didn't split the tournament into the two week thing instead of just having it all in one night for no real reason. Cena did nothing wrong... he's a professional he was put in a match and he wrestled in it to the best of his ability like he'd want anyone to do to him...
