People of color on AEW Sonny Private Party Scorpio Sky Riho Shida Cima Micheal Nakazawa Santana and Ortiz Lucha Bros Brandi Big Swole Not to mention the first openly Trans wrestler at least nationally. So maybe they could have more. But that’s a pretty diverse roster. Wwe have more African American. But honestly I feel like AEWs is more diverse. Guess I should have read through the post. I completely forgot pineapple Pete.

Nia as you mentioned is Native American, and Diamante and Ivelisse are Hispanic... i also dont believe Shanna is white either but not sure. But like I said twice already both Cody and Tony have mentioned they are scouting for guys and girls they can develop and realize that this is a problem right now so I dont think its a huge topic of discussion or criticism if AEW openly admits they want to add diversity.

I think the biggest problem, other than Corona is the state of wrestling right now. There’s a lot of great talent out there, but pretty much everyone who would be TV main event ready is already signed somewhere else. People not under a contract right now that are top level Indy talent would be JTG, AR Fox, and Lio Rush. (MLW definitely has some guys that could be players on a bigger stage, but it’s real hard to tell contract status with them.)
Personally, I’m excited for when Pineapple Pete, Sean Dean and Lee Johnson finally get their first wins in front of a crowd. I’ll definitely pop for that.

It's hard for new talent to also get on the come up when the Indies have been shut down. Thank goodness multiple companies are starting up again like GCW, Beyond, H2O Wrestling etc, because while there aren't a ton of HUGE names out there, there are names, and people who can only continue to get more exposure if possible. I wonder if PWG still holds BOLA this year, that's THE Indie starmaking show, the show where guys go from "Hey who is that?" to suddenly being booked everywhere.

Yea, I made allusions to that last week It's not that AEW doesn't have black wrestlers, none of them are stars and I don't resonate with any of them. In light of WWE, having like 11 of their 15 champions are minorities and I believe 7 of them are black, AEW has no real black stars being made right now. Starks is young, Sky is just there, PP is a young athletic team, and that's about it So yeah, they need to work on that. As a black man on a personal level, they lose some points with me as I don't see anyone who "looks like me" looking like a star and that hurts them on a relatable factor Do they have people you think could be in that spot but just aren't, or is it a bigger issue of them not even signing black stars who are hot prospects? I don't know the indy scene so I'm clueless there.

Losing wrestlemania weekend this year probably hurt a lot of careers. That and PWG tend to be people’s chances to break big.

2020 is reaching peak levels of virtue signalling and idiocy. BTW, i am not even white myself I tend to agree here about virtue signaling. I am also a minority, and I've long accepted the fact that I was watching a "white" form of entertainment when watching wrestling. Make no mistake about it, there was very little representation in the WWF when I started watching (1988-89) to when I lost interest (2002), and if there was, it would be whatever stereotype Vince had of that particular race (a pimp, a savage, whatever Akeem was, pointy boot America-hating heel, etc, etc). It's quite possible that the lack of diversity is simply a matter of not many black people wanting to get into the business compared to white people. The number has certainly grown now compared to what it was, at least on television, and maybe today's generation of black wrestlers will inspire more down the road (especially if there's more references to black culture rather than whatever Vince thinks black people talk about), but I think in the case of wrestling you can't force diversity. It's a niche that likely caters more to "nerd culture" now with the way it is presented, whereas 20 years ago it was more mainstream. I think in AEW's case they can't/shouldn't force diversity. Just sign the best talent you can find, and use the existing talent as much to their strengths as possible.

I don't know the indy scene so I'm clueless there. Not even hot prospects. Just signing black wrestlers in general and grooming them. No reason they can't find and groom talent with their resources. A guy like Montez Ford in WWE was picked up and you are watching him grow and people think he is destined for big things So as said before, not about just signing anyone and plugging them in. More so about signing more black talent and obviously seeing which ones work over time but getting them on TV and showcasing them in a way that shows they could be meant for something is really all they need

Before the pandemic ruined everything, AJ Gray and GCW were promoting a Wrestlemania weekend show called For the Culture, which was going to be a card exclusively featuring black talent. The fact that AJ was ready to pull off such a card with mostly free agents with some Impact and MLW talent shows the level of depth there is out there.

Random thought as it goes with this but the last week or so on twitter Uno and other Dark Order members have been teasing recruiting Sug/Pineapple Pete into their ranks with him becoming more and more frustrated with the mounting losses so things could be changing for him soon
