You would likely get Mesias and not Mil because I believe the reason he is allowed to use the gimmick is because he has been only using it on the indies and not on television.
Also from what I have heard his back is all jacked up anyways so without that sweet post-edit could be yikes.
And also from a personal feeling it just would not be the same...none of the vingettes that enhances the character , no gawd damn epic shrine to the dead , and most importantly no Catrina.

Imagine somewhere down the line when crowds return. Cody issues a challenge and Mil Muertes and Catrina walk out.

If LU is really done, see how much El Rey wants for the rights. Have Dario Cueto come out and run down Cody, then say HIS BROTHER! is getting in the ring.

MGM does and I can tell you absoloutley MGM aint selling the property because and I have mentioned it they still see it as a lucartive and worthwhile property and come around november when MGM gets the complete rights back (MGM licensed the broadcast rights to El Rey) there is a possibility they revive it because they love the show and wanted to make it for more money.

All valid points. The fact that he wasn't really looking for high profile US work post-LU until Covid effectively shut down Mexico tells me he's probably in the winding down stage of his career. But shit, Mil Muertes was so awesome. Even if it's just for a couple one-off matches, I'd be hyped as f*** to see him in AEW as another monster for Mox to to take down. (The name isn't a big deal, IMO. Tweak the mask design a bit and call him Mesias de la Muerte or something. It's the mannerisms and body language that made the character, and those aren't copyrighted.)

I would love that. I don't know how well he would stack up as a "Monster" with all the other big guys AEW has, but Mil Muertes and Matanza were both booked excellently and anyone who ever beat them did so by the skin of their teeth.

So far, AEW has played very nice with Dorian Roldan of AAA/Lucha Underground, who is very strict with his trademarks. This relationship has allowed AEW to present Fenix and Pentagon, Jr. under those names, instead of King Phoenix or Penta El 0 M or something like that.
With that said, if Gilbert el Boricua aka Ricky Banderas aka Mesias aka Mil Muertes came to AEW, he could likely use El Mesias (owned by the Pena/Roldan family) and might be able to use the Mil Muertes name.

I mean, I could see him being the heater for Death Triangle. Just name them Death^2 or something at that point.

Pretty much how I feel. Like, nothing against the guy, but I don’t think there’s a lot of gusto there for me personally due to all the reasons Captain listed. But eh. Not necessarily against it. I’d hope the guy’s getting steady work.

Mil's cool, so yeah, I'd of course be down. I do wonder if the AAA/AEW relationship will pick up again when Covid is less, uhhh, Covid.

Since I brought up the AAA/AEW relationship, I should point out that the performer who played Mil Muertes hasn't been with AAA in a few years. He was working in CMLL and The Crash for the past couple of years. He uses the name Gilbert el Boricua in CMLL. I was just saying that if he went to AEW, it might open up the possibility of using names that he used in AAA or Lucha Underground.

He would only be allowed to use Mil Muertes in AEW if AEW were to swing some agreement with MGM because the Mil Muertes gimmick is a LU creation where as something like a Pentagon Jr belongs to AAA. Because I believe the reason he is even allowed to use the gimmick is because he is not on a televised wrestling show.

I realize the Lucha Underground names have other legal entanglements to them, but I figured Dorian Roldan might be able to use his position to get it approved.

What the deal with Caterina? Why is she unavailable? She's not unavailable, but she may have been more focused on trying to get a break in the acting world.

Correct she is focused on her acting career ...it was why she gave the courtesy to LU to allow them to write her off the show and close the book on her character.

I know he's a bit older and banged up, and as said earlier there wouldn't be the chance to do edits to make his matches look crisper or what have you, but holy shit I would mark out for Mil Muertes in AEW.

If he comes to AEW, I hope he debuts by throwing Moxley through a door and just walks in after.
