It amazes me that the WWF kayfabed the inductions for these years on their website and people have taken this as gospel because of it. Arnold Skaaland was inducted by Shane McMahon, not Bob Backlund. You can even see Skaaland make reference to this on the Network during the ceremony. Here's Chief Jay Strongbow being inducted by Gorilla Monson, not Tatanka. Here's Gorilla Monsoon being inducted by Killer Kowalski, not Jim Ross. JR didn't even work for WWF at the time and was rehired a month later. Here's Miguel Perez Sr., not Diesel, inducting Antonino Rocca in 1995. Here's George Steele with the woman who inducted him. I have no idea who she is though. Either way she's definitely not Doink the Clown. Here's Gorilla Monsoon inducting Pedro Morales and the award being accepted by Savio Vega. Pedro allegedly no-showed the event even though the Network version made it seem like he was there. Either way, Savio didn't do the actual induction. The Network version of the ceremony also shows that Bill Watts inducted Ernie Ladd instead of Bobo Brazil and it sounds like Captain Lou inducted The Grand Wizard but I'm not completely certain of that. Lou is definitely on stage talking at one point though. And finally here's Tony Garea inducting the Valiant Brothers as seen on the Network version of the ceremony.

On KOTR 1995, Todd Pettengill recapped the ceremony, and it sounded like Bill Murray was supposed to induct Steele. Murray wasn't there in person but did send a video.

Pedro Morales didn't no show, WWF knew from the start he wouldn't attend because he was working for WCW at the time.

What would be WWE’s reason for doing this? Seems so unimportant and unnecessary.

Another thing about those early ceremonies is WWE claiming the footage of the inductions of Buddy Rogers, James Dudley, Antonino Rocca, Pedro Morales, The Grand Wizard, Vincent J McMahon, Baron Mikel Scicluna, and Johnny Rodz was lost.
Oddly coincidental that it includes every posthumous induction, the only living guy to not show up and accept his award, the guy who literally pissed himself at the ceremony because his faculties were going, and the two jobbers. Lost or never filmed from the start? I'm not saying some of them needed to be filmed, but I certainly don't believe the line that the footage was lost. It seems like decisions were made to save money at the very least.
On another note, it's weird that Ivan Koloff was in attendance for the first ceremony but was never inducted. Vince must have really disliked him.

Thanks for posting those. It is a shame we didn't know the original stories on the inductions. I remember reading, I think Wikipedia, that Bulldog and Owen inducted the Valiant Brothers. I know both guys had a good sense of humor and they were a big time heel tag team, each team, but back then with no DVDs made it seemed like an odd choice.
I also wonder why Ivan was never inducted, more so in the early years. He was also at Bruno's induction. Why induct Pedro if they knew he couldn't or wouldn't make it? Why not give that spot to Ivan who could accept. It seems like something WCW or TNA would do rather than WWF, inducting a guy who couldn't make it.
Ivan was such a good man, I can't see him doing anything to really make Vince McMahon mad enough to keep him out of the hall. I got to talk with him on the phone a few times and meet him in person through our chats and I did buy and read his book and I didn't see anything in there on the negative side. I do believe he thought he was considered for the Iron Sheik position as transitional champ in 1983 but wound up leaving to deal with drug issues. I think Sheik was the better choice but given Ivan's previous title history and gimmick I can see him still being an option if chosen. It's possible if he was slated for that chance and left that could have led to a grudge.
These early WWF HOF ceremonies are definitely things of legend. My father went to the Baltimore hotel and got me autographs of Sgt. Slaughter, Don Muraco, George Steele, Ted Dibiase and Lou Albano on two pieces of paper and I stupidly cut off each autograph when I was a kid.

I forgot one. For years Wikipedia said that Shane McMahon inducted Freddie Blassie when apparently Regis Philbin did it.
Meltzer doesn't even have write-ups on these early ceremonies and only mentions what was shown during the King of the Ring PPVs in 94 and 95.
Ivan is definitely an oversight but I feel like he'll be a Legacy induction sooner or later.

Based on the photo I would have to say is was James Dudley who urinated on himself.

James Dudley was clearly not in the best of health during this. If you watch the Network version you can see him looking through an issue of WWF Magazine while someone is accepting their award. To me that made it seem like he wasn't all there.

Vince must have really disliked him. I’d pretty much guarantee that what they have is all that was filmed. Say what you will about WWF, but it’s pretty much unheard of for them to lose any footage from the national expansion era on. The Tom Magee thing was an anomaly and it was a dark match. Vince understood very early the potential value in the footage, and pretty much all of it was archived and tracked. It’s not like WCW where half the masters were unlabeled and basically sitting in a storeroom. The idea of WWE losing footage from the mid 90’s seems very unlikely to me, especially something like HoF
