this reminds me that I just recently saw Cole's commentary over Trish returning to the first Women's Rumble. It was a bland, cold recitation of facts that completely killed all energy of the moment.

I just watched the first Women’s Rumble and Cole is so bad (as usual). They go from surprise that Lita is in the Rumble to Cole suddenly listing all the names that are written on her arm as a tribute. Like you said; bland, cold recitation. |

I think one of the biggest faults with Micheal Cole is that he seems to have lost the ability to judge timing and 'to let the moment breathe'. What do I mean? Like if Macho and Liz got married, he would wait all about about a tenth of a second after "I DO" before he'd cut in on their celebration to start talking about how legendary of a moment it was, or shilling the next PPV or some shit. When Mankind "put butts in the seats" he would have been blabbering WWE-speak all over the moment instead of letting it happen.
Cole saying "WRESTLEMANIA MOMENT" instead of letting the damn moment happen is probably the textbook example.
That said, I do think he still has the journalist instinct to handle real, legit problems. Like he would have handled Owen's Death or Sid's Leg like a pro. But when the kayfabe shades are put back on he's a turd.

I do enjoy the rare moments when Cole's humanity slips through; like, he plays along with certain guest commentators and it's actually kind of endearing. I always chuckle when he mentions that he's undefeated at Wrestlemania.
I don't enjoy Cole's work, but like most things WWE related I can't put all the blame on him -- by most accounts, Vince has been yelling in his year for a very long time. That'll wear you the f*** down.
