So let’s take a little looksie at what’s happened here and ask a question.
Can the live crowd take away from what would otherwise be a great event? Can their reactions sway your own opinion.
Here’s my thinking. There were definitely some matches tonight where there would have been little to no reaction and I’m sure the end of the match (not the after) in the Main Event would have been received badly.
But not seeing/hearing a crowd boo it out of the building, I’m actually ok with it.
Which begs, how many events may have I enjoyed if the crowd were all tv screens?

I think what helped is that they didn’t try to be cute and do a big swerve just for the sake of it, maybe other than Reigns’s return. They told a logical story with Mysterio v Rollins and it worked, same with Asuka, Bayley and Banks and same with McIntyre v Orton. The back end of the show really helped the overall in that regard.

Crowds can greatly effect a show one way or another The lack of cynicism has def helped in some parts like Apollo getting his run but it also has hindered in some areas. In AEW, I think Jon Moxley title run has been hurt by no crowd

It's crazy what a show can be when you do logical sensible booking.

I wasn't going to watch this but I'm glad I did. I probably won't watch it again but it's a reminder that WWE's ROSTER (not WWE themselves) is still fantastic

The biggest zoom call of the summer didn’t work for me.It was better than being at the PC forcing employees to be fans but the fake crowd noise just doesn’t work for me.I also hate that the matches don’t reflect their builds at all.
You got heel managers poisoning babyfaces and they then do a 15 minute raw match. Seth ripped out Rey’s eyeball on ppv and his son vows revenge by grappling. You rip my daddy’s eyeball out I’m ripping out something of yours. Orton has been a psychopath attacking legends that Drew respects so much that he vows revenge by having a wrestling match that ends with a backslide. The Fiend murdered Braun in a swamp last month....let that sink in. In the weeks following said murder we had multiple incidents of male on alexa violence and a kidnapping. An assault on the set of a children’s show,a magical ambulance that turned injured bray into a murderous clown and lots of laughs. The match was boring and lacked intensity it was just dudes throwing eachother into walls and it ended with a finisher on foam. The whole story was about Alexa and she’s not even there. Roman’s back and he’s s pissed I don’t know why seeing he’s the one that chose to leave in the first place.

It did not have much moments which I myself really liked but as far as wrestling goes it was decent all around. Hopefully WWE surprises with Payback, which is usually one of the LOL shows of the year as far as meaningfulness.

I actually kind of wish I could watch it. I absolutely hate looking at that Thunderdome. I thought there were way too many screens and shit 10 years ago, and they just keep adding more. It literally hurts my eyes and head.
So of course they put on a really good ppv in that environment.

I just don’t understand the lack of Alexa & retribution. Whats another word for Retribution? I'll give you a hint, what is next Sunday? Just a theory

I didn't really care for the Braun/Bray match, but everything else was really enjoyable.

I haven't watched weekly all year, but I've been on-and-off with the PPVs. Caught most of SummerSlam, and I enjoyed a lot of it. Dominick was great! Dig the gear he has, and I felt like for a first match against a top guy, he held his own just fine. Good story to it all with an emotional ending, too. Rey has to be so genuinely proud of his son.

Yeah that was way better than it had any right to be from the build.
My main takeaway is that you could tell me Dominik had been wrestling for 3 years and I'd believe you.

I don't understand how it was universally praised and we still have guys like Corbin and Garza complaining about fans on Twitter being unhappy.

I don't understand how it was universally praised and we still have guys like Corbin and Garza complaining about fans on Twitter being unhappy. Probably because there are fans complaining about producers on the Thunderdome feed telling fans to react to stars. Apparently WWE telling Thunderdome fans to react to stuff makes them terrible now. That's why you see some WWE stars getting pissed off. Because people will complain about nearly everything.

I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't really sit down and watch the show from start to finish, but I enjoyed what I saw and that's honestly more than I can say for most WWE shows in the last decade. I'm glad to see Roman Reigns back and displaying heelish tendencies finally. If they go all in with him as an antihero (or even better, a full on heel) I think he can finally become the megastar they want him to be.
That said, Michael Cole's commentary took the show down three pegs as usual. The CHAIR is BENT IN HALF!!! THE CHAIR HAS BEEN BENT OVER THE BACK OF BRAUN STROWMAN!! It's just so freaking obnoxious to me at this point it detracts even when there are interesting things going on.
