That Family Matters thread Where they added Steve into the cold openings in season one reminded me of something.
Monk, I clearly remember on the original dvd, the first two episodes used the original music on top on the opening scene and that’s how you get the season one opening. When they play it in reruns and on peacock, they play the Randy Newman theme and then the show starts on silence. It’s kind of weird.
What memories do you guys have?
What are your thoughts on this? On one hand, it’s nice sometimes when the director/producer can fix a mistake. Though sometimes it’s infuriating knowing there’s an original alternate version out there that will be forgotten.
On a similar but not quite the same note, I like that
On Netflix, Saved by the bell put the summer and Tori episodes separate from the rest as their own season. Though it’s weird they didn’t put the Slater enrolls episode as the first Community put the season 3 episodes back in the correct order On dvd and added a quick line from Brittany and Annie about making sure it’s the right number apartment.

I mean, if we are talking theme songs House M.D. switched from Massive Attack's "Teardrop" to a different song. The intro is not as good because of it.
Oh, and any place not named Fox that airs Firefly airs them in correct order. Who in the hell doesn't air the pilot episode where everyone gets introduced first?

In the 7 year run of Garfield & Friends, the show had 3 opening songs:
"Friends are there" "We're ready to party." & the rap one.
The TV syndicated version which ran right after the show ended only showed the second theme implanted on all the episodes. (For the DVD releases, the first theme was put back, but the rap theme never was.)

Season 1 episodes of Home Improvement shown in syndication use the Season 2 intro.

This goes back to the 70s. Because of rules saying they couldn't use the same title for the first-run and reruns, we had episodes of Happy Days Again, Laverne and Shirley and Company, CHiPs Patrol, and more on local stations.
Here's a big one. You know the heart/cursive opening we all know and love from, well, I Love Lucy? Not the originals.
Cutting/banning references to sponsors in the opening and end credits in general.
Boy Meets World got ONE opening sequence for all the seasons.
Full House lost the extended theme song.
Unhappily Ever After lost the Bobcat Goldthwait-sung theme of season one. All the reruns were plastered by the Hit the Road Jack open.
Challenge of the Superfriends = separate the Challenge eps. and the core team eps, latter gets the All New Superfriends Hour open.
All Scooby-Doo episodes from 1980-82 receive the edited Scooby and Scrappy 1979 opening.
For a time, TBS aired Scooby episodes from all versions...but with the 1984 opening.
Good Morning, Miss Bliss = rebranded as Saved By The Bell.
Transformers...GENERATION TWO.

The Seinfeld episode The Handicap spot replaced the original actor who played Frank Costanza in syndication with Jerry Stiller. If I’m not mistaken though the John Randolf version is on Hulu. youtu.be/4EggYnwMWyE

In its original airings, the opening theme of the first two seasons of The Flintstones was called "Rise and Shine" and used a completely different animation sequence (no Fred sliding down the dinosaur, just a rather mundane sequence of Fred driving home from work). "Meet the Flintstones" started in season three. When the show started airing in syndication they edited the now iconic song into those early seasons. The original opening wasn't seen again until the show started airing on the Cartoon Network in the late 90's.
In Newman's first "appearance" (voice only) on Seinfeld, he was voiced by Larry David. After Wayne Knight was cast in the part, Newman's lines from that original episode were redubbed by Knight and used in subsequent airings.

They had a different actor play Jerrys dad in his first appearance, but they chose not to refilm it as they felt the actor had aged to much.

Danielle, the undercover FBI agent in The Sopranos who befriends Adrianna, was originally played by Fairuza Balk in the broadcast version of the episode the character first appears in.
All subsequent airings of that episode and DVD releases have the character played by a different actress, who played the character in all her future apperances.
Must have been kind of a mindf*** for anyone who was actually watching at the time the episodes aired.

"All the jerks are in tower one." from the Simpsons.
also this one line from Family was censored at least once after his death. "I've figured it out, she looks like a hot Tim Russert."
Or do those not count, and I missed the point entirely.

Alf removed the to be continued at the end of its final episode in syndication because the show was canceled.
Implying Alf was dissected by the government like the agents said they were going to do throughout the series if they found an alien life form.

USA network aired the 80s GI Joe episodes with the 1990 DIC opening. They even dubbed the instrumental of it over the end credits (though the animation was from the 80s credit sequence).

Top Gear has a ton of edits, mostly to remove instances where one of the presenters (usually Clarkson) said something wildly offensive. The use of a slur against Asians in the Burma special Immediately comes to mind.
