Gonna have to watch again with subtitles cuz there are some parts of dialogue that are almost impossible to hear. The sound mix is so wonky that the music and FX will be way up&some exposition dialogue is just mumbly as hell which in a movie like this with a complex plot is befuddling.
I'm not the only one that thinks that way either as I'm seeing inline it's a common complaint.
Apparently Nolan meant to do it that way, talking about how dialogue isn't the only way get clarity of story. Which, fine I agree, but if you're doing a scene where dialogue isn't as important as the other elements of story, maybe don't have dialogue? No need to go total artsy fartsy with your vision there Chris.
Don't get me wrong, it's a very cool movie. Mind bending, fun, sci fi actioner. Just know that some parts are gonna make you go "um, what?" Not because it's a complex plot (though it is) but more cuz you didn't catch what the characters are sayin.

I haven't watched the movie but there's an article on the guardian which goes a bit into this: www.theguardian.com/film/2020/sep/03/tenet-dialogue-christopher-nolan-sound-technologylinkIf true and it's done on purpose to keep the audience more concentrated, well that's quite dumb. Either you are interested in the movie and follow the dialogue or you're not and don't listen to it. It doesn't matter if it's hard to hear. Kinda like instead of referring to plot points indirectly you would only mention them in the novelization and then claim that the part of audience who want to pay attention to the story should read the book first.

I just saw it, and I’d have to agree- it’s a fun, smart and compelling film, but the audio choices were weird (though I did like the overall score).

I'm just sad it'll probably get all the awards that were otherwise destined to go to Sonic The Hedgehog.

I wish I saw all these reviews before I saw it this afternoon I would have requested a C.C. device from the box office.

Nolan's had weirdly bad audio for a while, any time I see his stuff in theaters it's had some weird thing like garbly voices or just being incredibly anxiety inducingly loud.

Nolan has had some issues with audio mixing in the past.
Bane in TDKR and during Michael Caine’s death scene in Interstellar there were times I was struggling to make out what was being said.
Unrelated to the audio issues but it took until I got home to see that John David Washington’s character was actually called The Protagonist’ rather than just being a cheeky reference.

The film was confusing enough without the audio being drowned out by the incredibly loud soundtrack. I mean I can listen to the heaviest music possible but the music particularly in the scene where Washington climbs onto the fire truck started to make me feel sick.

I'm guessing the movie didn't have as much dick-windmilling or HO-TEL BARS as the original professor

The loud makes you not notice how the movie makes no sense.
All style.

Just came back from seeing it. I enjoyed it a lot but agree, it was hard to hear a lot of the dialogue. They also talked through the logistics of everything really fast so I had a hard time keeping up at points. But I mostly followed it well and enjoyed it a lot. John David Washington is a great leading man and Pattinson was great too.

I didnt really have an issue with the sound and dialogue , I did find the plot to be confusing. I was lost fo half the movie . Still found it to be entertaining . also {Spoiler} did Michael Cane make a subtle kingsman reference ?
