Which I wouldn't have thought when it was first announced. But he plays completely against type from every character he's ever played and does it really well. He nails Lex's arrogance in his own genius and even though he's not a physical threat he Carrie's off a sense of menace. Plus we get the war suit from time to time.
He hasn't yet topped Rosenbaum from me but he does a good job.
The shame of it is, he's kind of wasted on the slog of a watch Supergirl has become. The first couple seasons were really good, but around the 4th it descended into just painful, boring cheese even more so than the CW usually is. Cast is still good but man the writing kneecaps them at every time. Found myself skipping episodes and then fast forwarding the others if Lex wasn't onscreen.
Here's hoping that new Superman show is better and he gets to go over there and continue to be good.
If they could have swapped him for Eisenberg that would have improved BvS a ton.

Well of course he's a good Lex. He had training being a different Luthor before.

What works about Cryer's Lex is that there is some intelligent manipulation and genuine belief in his own righteousness (his statement of "I've always been the hero" to the Monitor is dead on for the character), but that's much more pure id than Clancy Brown or Rosenbaum's takes. The petty jealousy and resentment towards the likes of Superman is much more on display which differentiates him from previous takes without ruining the character; basically what Snyder and Eisenberg tried and failed to do with Luthor in the DC films.

He is a fantastic Luthor and not ashamed to say he won me over and I was almost dead set on just hating it out the gate because it was not Rosenbaum , I love that he isn't completely infailable he has his comedic moments mixed in it is a great balance that he strikes with the character.
That being said he isn't gonna reach Rosenbaum because that was as close to a perfect live action Lex as we may ever see but Cryer is no slouch and may well end up as the 2nd best live action Lex of all time.

He's a fantastic Lex, number 3 overall for me. Number 1 is Clancy, and number 2 is Rosenbaum. He silenced every critic he had about him getting the role.

I'm not sure if I can see the man who played Alan Harper and Duckie, knock it out of the park as Lex Luthor.
But, he is an accomplished actor that is perhaps underrated. I hated Alan the character and that's because he was so damn good at portraying him.

Cryer is an excellent Lex and one of the few saving graces of the slog that was the second half of Supergirl Season 5.
If he ends up killing William "Watching Paint Dry" Dey in S6, I'll appreciate him even more.

Cryer is amazing. My favorite moment of mine of his was during his hunt of Superman's in the multiverse, he comes a long Smallville's Superman only to find out he is now powerless and a family man. That "you ruined it" line killed it. Wonderful stuff.

Kevin Smith called him the most comic-accurate live action version of Lex, and I have to agree. As great as Rosenbaum was as Lex in Smallville, he was really his own character. Cryer's Lex feels like it's come straight out of the comic books.

He also looks really happy to be on a series where his co-stars aren't complete and utter f***wits

It's sad that John Shea doesn't get more recognition. The pure menace underneath the velvet exterior he brought to the role was off the charts. Shea's Luthor out-stared a King Cobra just because he could to display his dominance.

With Kara and Lena finally becoming girlfriends again, Supergirl S6 might be the perfect way to write him out of the show without outright killing him so he can be in the new Superman & Lois show.
Then again, S&L looks like it's set a bit in the future from the current Arrowverse continuity since their kids are teenagers in it, so Cryer might even pull some double duty.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The new SuperMan and Lois has its own Lex Luthor but there was talk maybe about having multiple Lex Luthors show up eventually on the show of course that is just heresay and nothing cemented in anyway.

I didn’t watch much of Supergirl but that moment he had at the end of Episode 3 of Crisis...*chef’s kiss* Ultimate Asshole energy radiated off of it. That shit was on par with Comics Lex did in his storyline in Action Comics. Lex achieves godhood and the universe is going experience pure happiness and bliss. But there's a problem, Superman is apart of the universe and well....yeah. Lex pisses it all away to try and kill Superman one more time.

There is one animated movie that is pretty bad but has one great line ,after Lex loses his superman like power lex says he could help everyone with it. Superman just says basically "No you wouldnt, you could have helped humanity all along"
