That’s pretty damn insane. And yeah, beefs up the library big time.
I like the variety of purchases made by Microsoft, it’s not just a Bethesda, you have Obsidian and Double Fine that make different games from each other so if you’re going to get a library assembled, that’s how you diversify it.

Its gonna be interesting to see how this affects exclusivity. While this is clearly a big move to out maneuver Sony, given that Nintendo has not been in the arms race of improving hardware, chances are a lot of the AAA games outside Doom weren't coming the likes of Switch anyway. Plus with Microsoft's more friendly relationship with Nintendo and that they're in far less direct competition with each other than either is with Sony, this might still mean some Bethesda stuff on Switch and Switch 2 in the future.

Also someone on Twitter basically pointed out this is Microsoft’s generation to lose and...well, they aren’t wrong.
They have the Bethesda Library, Obsidian, Double Fine, Rare, Minecraft, Game Pass and more importantly, they haven’t had a PR screwup yet.

Not just Bethesda, considering Ori, Cuphead and others have come out on Switch the past few months, wouldn’t be shocked if they started doing stuff like finally getting Rare Replay on the console or something.

I mean... This is massive news.
On the one hand, it's great for Microsoft as it helps their game library and may make games like Starfield timed exclusives.
On the other, both Microsoft and Bethesda were pioneers in microtransactions in console video games, and Bethesda's output under Todd Howard has been pretty spotty at best. Skyrim is a meme at this point, ESO has the occasional cinematic update and then people forget about it, and nobody talks about 76 after Wastelanders took it from "dumpster fire" to "just broken". We know practically nothing about their latest games.

Well shit. As soon as Elder Scrolls 6 is out, I’m getting an XBX.

The OG Xbox was the WRPG system for me back in the day, they definitely have enough studios to go back to that now.

To be honest, after they ruined the Wolfenstein and Doom sequels, not to mention sharting out the diarrhoea in game form that Fallout 76 turned out to be... I'm not bothered if Elder Scrolls 6: Live Service is Xbox exclusive.

Hey, maybe they'll actually make them stop porting Skyrim to every console known to man, and actually make them do the new Elder Scrolls sometime this decade.

This reminds of when MS bought Rare. That worked out... Oh and apparently they paid more for Bethesda than Disney did for Star Wars and Marvel.

Honestly with Bethesda's image kind of being shaky, this was a great time to sell while there was still value. Also Microsoft might keep a close eye on them so their games are not as buggy messes as they are when they are released. Last thing Bethesda needs is another Fallout 76.

Like, outside of the Master Chief Collection, which from what I heard did get remedied, I can’t remember a Microsoft game launch that was super buggy and would crash if you so much as breathed on the console.

After doing some thought, here's what I have to say about all of this...
Honestly I think Bethesda got the better deal. Their latest major hit was Doom Eternal that did well but not as well as the previous game, and Fallout 76, that was met with… let’s say mix results. Their image is kind of sliding down so selling while the company has value is a very smart move, especially for that much.
It also gives exclusives to Microsoft systems and PC, something that’s been haunting Microsoft especially with the last generation of systems and that the PS4 has been killing it with exclusive titles and Microsoft has been trying to catch up ever since. Buying Bethesda is a major step into fixing this. Bethesda games also have an infamous reputation of being glitch filled messes especially at launch, maybe Microsoft can keep an eye to make sure that when a new major Bethesda game launches that it won’t be a buggy mess.
I could also see this backfiring as well. Like I said Bethesda is not the strongest right now and buying them for 7.5 Billion is a steep investment. Not to mention Microsoft has a way of destroying everything it buys. The fall of Skype and the recent death of Mixer is proof of that.
Overall this could either be a match made in heaven or could be catastrophic for both sides. This all also means Obsidian is under the same roof as Bethesda and they could in theory work on a Fallout New Vegas 2 so there's that.
