This hits hard. Van Halen, and 1984 specifically, is the first band/album I recall from an early age. RIP

Ever since I heard this story, it's what I always think of when I hear Eddie Van Halen mentioned:
When Alice in Chains opened for Van Halen, Jerry Cantrell and Eddie were talking about guitars and Eddie said something about how backwards it is that now that he can afford whatever he wants, he gets sent stuff for free. Later on, after Alice got back to Seattle, Jerry got home and the person he was staying with was like "can you get all your shit out of my garage?" Confused, Jerry goes to the garage to find it absolutely filled with all sorts of guitar gear from Eddie.
Such a nice thing to do, both as a person and for a fellow guitar player who was just at the beginning of his career.

RIP to a legend. I was lucky enough to see Van Halen with David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar live. Both were great, just different.

Eddie was probably the first guitar god that I was aware of, and as such he always had an effect on my learning guitar. For the longest I just wanted to be able to play like EVH but as I got older I gravitated to other players. I’ll always be thankful for the inspiration to try to master the guitar though.
RIP.

Never a huge Van Halen fan, but respect the hell out of Eddie for being one of the all time greats. Icon and Legend can easily be used to describe him. Rest In Peace EVH

This is the closest our generation will get to losing Jimi.
Motorhead is and will always be my favorite band, and Lemmy leaving us knocked me loopy, but Motorhead never changed the game. They just had an amazing ride with what they were given.
Eddie absolutely changed the game. The art of playing guitar has never been the same since he made his mark. Even if you weren't influenced by him directly, someone who did influence you was influenced by Eddie. And the work he did in designing his gear is monumental. The modern rock/heavy metal sound wouldn't be the same without the 5150/6505 series of amps. Literally everything about modern day rock n roll and heavy metal wouldn't exist without you, Eddie. Thank you. And rest well.

Never was a fan. Just could not get into David Lee Roths voice. That said, dude was one of the most influential guitarists of all time.

But Eddie's influence on the technical aspects of playing and making guitars is up there with Jimi, Les Paul, and George Harrison (who is criminally underrated as a guitarist IMO).

My earliest memory of Van Halen was when "Jump" was the theme song to WGNs intro to Chicago Cubs baseball. RIP to a legend!

The thing I remember is him and David getting tired of being shocked all the time because of idiot event organisers and putting the no Blue M&Ms rule in the electrical requirements part of the tour rider. Probably saved a few lives by making promoters actually pay attention to electrical requirements for bands that bring a million amps and enough lights to set up a whole city.

bumping this caus Wolfgang debuted this song today from his upcoming solo album, and the video is legit sweet of just home videos of him and Eddie and Valleri.
Wolfgang plays everything and sings everything on this, the name of his project is Mammoth WVH Band, which Mammoth was the original name of Van Halen when Roth joined.
Wolfgang also revealed today on the Stern show that the rumors from a year ago of the original 4 doing a tour were true, Wolf kept putting it in Eddie's ear to do a tour with Michael Anthony on bass, and Wolfie would just open for him, Eddie was like "nah, I really just wanna play with you" and so Wolfie met in the middle he would do the bass on stuff from "A Different Kind Of Truth" and thats it, then Eddie warmed up fully to bringing Michael back fully. so then Wolfgang got back in Eddie ear going "ya know, this should be The Kitchen Sink Tour, lets have all 3 singers and just have a giant VH celebration together! which after a bit Eddie agreed, and Wolfgang got the 3 singers willing to do it. Sadly, we never got this tour.
