It's on TMZ right now...
Fantastic musician and writer... their music was the party soundtrack of the 80s.
Rest in peace, sir.

Apparently he had throat cancer. I didn't even know he was sick. RIP Eddie. Fantastic guitarist.

Holy shit. I knew he'd had cancer previously and had beaten it, I had no clue it'd come back. RIP to one of the absolute greatest guitarists of all-time.

This is where I learned of Van Halen originally, and why I tend to prefer Hagar era. I’m not a big Van Halen fan but still, this sucks.

Say what you will about him as a person (I always thought he was an asshole but that's just me), but you can't deny his talents in the music world. Especially the first album.
That's all I need to show you.

Smart placement in a kid's movie of this magnitude. I know this was my first exposure to them, and I don't doubt that it was for millions of others too.

Not the kind of news I wanted today. RIP.
“Eruption” is iconic, that’s for sure.

Eddie was an absolutely incredible musician, and this is a sad day for music. I just got home from work, I’m gonna go toss 1984 on the record player

Never a huge Van Halen fan (my favorite song Eddie appears on is actually "Beat It") but he was obviously an absolute world-class talent that left a huge legacy in rock music.
