This would be like Michael Bolton claiming he wrote "When a man Loves a Woman"
Today's young audience hasn't seen "Bill Cosby Himself" and probably never will, the way hollywood redoes movies, it wouldn't surprise me if comedians start doing older comic's material

I don't know about you but for my money it doesn't get any better than when he sings that. But then I celebrate the man's entire catalog.

I'd rather they, like James Frey, be called out in public and humiliated and humbled for their actions. For stealing other comedians' work (which is, effectively, stealing money out of their pockets and food out of their mouths), it's what they deserve. Jed Shaffer ~You're entitled to your opinion, though. I just have a low opinion of people who thieve art. Humbled like in the old country?

My take: I do enjoy Dane Cook's stand up cd's. The working at burger king bit...i love it. But I've lost a great deal of respect for the man for ripping material. Mind of Mencia has made me laugh on occasion. His stand-up, not so much. Once again, I loose a great deal of respect for someone who steals material. Although, the first time i saw his show, i knew that he was indeed ripping off another comedian, because there is this black comedian, who had been doing the same act for years now. His name escapes me, but when he would do his grandma voice, or nerdy kid voice, its the exact same as carlos' now famous DE DE DE voice. That was probably really hard to understand what i was trying to say...my appologies.

God, I so hope Mencia's career eventually plummets like a dying bird. That he's even getting a measure of fame for doing almost nothing funny or original is borderline-depressing.
Some people have justified the "stealing" of other's material by saying things like "Well, Robin Williams did it!", without remembering that A) Robin Williams is a stream of consciousness performer, so he'll basically say whatever comes into his mind, and B) when he's called out on it, Williams says "Sorry", and writes the joke's creator a nice $1,000+ check.
Mencia is just a hack.
What's worse is that we're supposed to listen to his ethnic jokes and think of him as "edgy", or "thought provoking".
When the hell did stereotypes become thought-provoking?
See, Dave Chappelle did/does FUNNY race humor; he'll point out minor-but-true things, and usually look beyond surface stereotypes when making his jokes. For example, see the "Swapping Spouses" bit he did where the white and black family trade fathers, and the black father notices how white people don't wash using cleaning rags, but instead share the same bar of soap. That bit was funny. Even beyond that, his standup is great, because Chappelle, as a performer, is an amazing story-teller. It's funny.
Just running around screaming "MEXICANS DO THIS, BLACK PEOPLE DO THAT!" isn't. Mencia is a leech on the world of comedy, and someone needs to remove him from the host body. At least when issues like this come up about Dane Cook, you can at least defend Cook by saying "He's more about presentation and physicality than actual material", but Mencia...ugh.
Don't get me started on his Bud Light commercials, either. As if I needed ANOTHER reason to never drink any Anheuiser-Busch beer.

It has to be done.
Oh, oh, you see, the comedians, they listen to my comedy cassette which gives them the ideas. With their stealin', and the mealinin', and the zippin', and the zoppin', so they don't know what the comedy...is all about! You see, comedy is like the Jello Pudding Pop -- no, actually, it's more like Kodak film -- no, actually, comedy is like the New Coke: it'll be around forever, heh heh heh.

Alright, so the jokes are a little similar, but I don't see any joke theft here. It's just a common thing. The dad teaches the kid all about football, and when that kid gets big, he tosses dad behind mom, God, and Jesus on the list of who to thank. I wouldn't be surprised if Dennis Miller ever made a joke similar to this. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff Foxworthy made this joke. It's an easy, simple "happens all the time" joke. If maybe Carlos stole Cosby's chocolate cake for breakfast bit, then I'd agree with you. But football players saying "Hi mom" or "I'd like to thank my mom" when their father did all the work really isn't something that is so specific that only one comic can cut that joke.

I wasn't surprised to see Mencia ripping someone else off.
I was surprised to see people defending him and/or considering him funny.
Seriously, whenever I get into a conversation about the guy or read a message board about it, I never see any support for him. Now, here, it's 1 percent support, 99 percent hate.
Which always has me asking myself: who is watching this sh*t?

Could someone tell me what jokes Dane Cook has stolen from Louie CK? I'm sort of a "casual" fan of both comedians. There was a bit Louis did about weird names people give their kids, and the punchline was that he was going to name is kid something with no vowels, like "Rrrrrrr" or something. Cook did the same bit, changed the name a little (I think his was "Ffffffff" or something) and nobody batted an eye. It wasn't the exact same joke, but it was pretty close. I had a link comparing the two at one point, but it's not board-safe; if I can find it again, I'll PM it to you, DSR. EDIT: Also, there was a bit Louis did about not having enough time to warn a guy on a bike about to get hit by a car door, so instead of yelling "HEYGUYONTHEBIKELOOKOUT!!" he just yelled out "BAD THING!" Dane Cook went with "Uuuuuuhh!" instead, but the set-up was the same. EDIT PART 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO: Also, if you are familiar with either man's "itchy a**hole" bit, well ... Louis did it first, as far as I know.
