Did you enjoy wcw using him for big main events?

He was one of many big names they had at their disposal, and it did give even their worst main events a big fight feel.

Ppvs sure. But when they did it every week on Nitros and he miss pronounced half the names? Nah. It just felt like a colossal waste of money.
When he came out you knew it was time to switch to raw to see what was going on their main event because he would take a good three minutes before the match starting.
Most weeks I wouldn’t switch back.

If he had even pretended to give a shit about what he was doing, sure, I might have. But as he was JR-in-New-Japan-levels of phoning it in, he was as pointless as it got.

He was mostly fine, though his overly long intros started to get a little ridiculous. Towards the end, I remember he would include “He is the Spokesperson for Slim Jim’s!” among Randy Savage’s career accomplishments.

I was pretty young at the time (like 11-14) and I started watching WCW in 1997, so he was basically an integral part of WCW for me and I loved it. Absolutely made every main event feel incredibly important even if it absolutely was not.

Loved using him on PPV main events, but Buffer started to get used too often outside of PPV. It was just one of the ways that WCW overhyped things like crazy, similar to having Tony Schiavone act like there was a monumentally groundbreaking moment nearly every week.

Bringing him in for PPVs was fine but I would never have had him on TVs unless it was one of the Nitro's in a dome. Even though it was a colossal waste of money I still laugh at the absurdity of Glacier getting the Buffer intro. www.dailymotion.com/video/x4sqov

Did he mess up as often with boxing as he did for wcw?

*introducing referee Randy Anderson* "Your referee is Randy Peterson." I'm surprised at all the Yes votes. I can't imagine him lasting as long in WWF if he had been used. Guys backstage would have hated him, especially if during the mid 1990s with the money losses. WCW guys were all about spending as much money as they could no matter what. I always remember the Randy Anderson intro because I knew his name was Randy Anderson BUT I thought maybe WCW had changed his name for some reason, like WWE and Mickey Jay. I was thinking "I thought the ref's name was Randy Anderson. Hmm. I guess they changed it." Like mentioned he was a channel changer for me. I'm a wrestling fan, not boxing. I want to hear a wrestling announcer like Fink or Gary Cappetta in the 1990s. He got progressively worse during the late 1990s too. Also, I hated the whole "wearing the colors of the Union Jack, blue, red and white with gold trim...the British Bulldog." I know what colors the guys have on, I didn't want to hear it, I just wanted to see the match.

It was okay for PPVs, but he did get long-winded and made some mistakes with his announcing like he didn't give a shit most of the time.

I appreciated the big time feel he gave main events. Seeing him live at Rumble 08 gave me chills. Too bad it was a one-off.

Lillian Garcia butchered the names of everything all the time. WWE didn’t seem to care. Lilian wasn't being paid Michael Buffer money. If you're paying a guy hundreds of thousands to hype up your main events you at least need him to read his cue cards correctly.

He definitely wasn't worth the expense, but I did appreciate the gravitas he'd give the main events he introduced.

I liked his Kevin Nash intro. Instead of announcing a hometown I think it was something like "Due to his accomplishments, he considers himself a citizen of the world". Hilarious.

Did he mess up as often with boxing as he did for wcw? He once announced a fighter called Darren Barker as Baker in a world title fight so at least once.
