So local comics shop had some tpbs for 50% off recently so I picked this one up. It 'fills in the gap' about Pete&MJ's relationship status after the effects of One More Day--to that end it's fine I guess, it's certainly well drawn. But boy does it make OMD itself make even less sense from a character standpoint. Because what it establishes is that the reason they never got married was MJ couldn't handle being Spider-man's wife and mother of his children BUT at the same time they didn't break up and continued living together and had a long term relationship the entire time. They just never put a ring on it.
It also makes Mephisto look like a complete goober. So all he wanted was to make sure they weren't legally and financially bound to one another. The relationship itself was untouched. What a weak motivation for the devil. "You'll have never been on any wedding registry! Think of the gravy boats and China sets you didn't get! Mwahahahaha!"
I mean I guess you could say he took away their potential daughter, but given that was never gonna happen in main continuity anyway and Mayday exists on a buncha alternate realities anyway, Mephisto is just really shitty at this whole Satan thing.

Marvel are largely ignoring One Moment In Time now. It was intended to replace One More Day in the memories of everyone in the 'regular' timeline, but after Quesada left the Editorial position, several stories have teased that OMD still happened the way it did. MJ no longer has any problem being with Peter and has even been depicted in both alternate and main continuities as being fully capable of outwitting and outmatching Peter's enemies, either as a civilian or as a superhero partner who also happens to be a mother (see the Renew Your Vows series)
So yeah, the Mephisto deal never made sense, so much so that the current storyline in Amazing Spider-Man, "Last Remains" seems largely focused on dealing with the consequences of it.
