When I was a kid, I remember the very first episode airing in 1987 for the first time. I fell in love, and watched the show religiously for like the first 4 seasons or so. Around the time it switched from syndication to Saturday mornings, I stopped watching as much. I was like 13, so while reading Batman comics was perfectly cool in my mind, watching Ninja Turtles was for kids, lol. So from like season 5-7 I watched occasionally, and I never saw the "serious" seasons 8-10.
So recently I decided to binge the entire series. I was having a blast until around season 6. The quality just seemed to take a nosedive to where the episodes weren't even holding my interest. I decided to give up. However, I still wanted to see the "serious" episodes I had never seen. I watched season 8 episode 1 and it was really weird. It was like this hybrid of the 1987 series and the 2003 series that was yet to come, yet not as good as either. So that was a bust, but I still wanted to see the final episode, so I watched it. This shit was batshit insane. It didn't even resemble the rest of the series much.
I'm still going to do my 2003 rewatch now (minus Fast Forward and Back To The Sewer), and then finish off with Turtles Forever.

Season seven is largely considered by the fans as the best since the third.
Season Ten is OK, especially when Dregg teams with Shredder and Krang. That should have been the actual ending.

Season 6? Did you make it to the episode that contained this wonderful piece of voice acting? What fascinates me about 1987 TMNT: I watched the original show here and there and then lost track of it. Then years later I saw some of the red sky episodes with Lord Dregg and thought "Huh, guess a serious Turtle show got released just now". It was only a few years ago when I got bamboozled by learning that those were the final seasons of the 1987 show and not a new series.

There seems to be a near universal experience where fans who were young at the time and fell off of TMNT later discover just how long the show actually ran. Given how sharply interest in the series fell off after the third movie (and the arrival of Power Rangers) the idea of Turtles show still airing in 1996 is just bizarre. While the franchise in the mainstream hadn't hit its nadir period yet (hello Next Mutation) it seems like an entirely different landscape by the time the 87 show finally finished.

That episode with Shreeka is one of the highlights of that season despite that scene, that, 'Rock Around The Block' and 'Super Irma' are good episodes also.
I think the worst seasons were four and five honestly.

I had no clue the Fred Wolf run of TMNT lasted as long as it did. I was in my early teens when it started so only saw the first 2 seasons in syndication. Wasn't until the complete run was released on DVD,in that nice Turtle Van case, that I saw the later seasons. The Red Skies run to me is the best of the run.
