I have the oldest love story ever told, a man and the pain in his lower back. Too many years lifting enthusiastically, but incorrectly. When I was younger, I could out muscle my bad form (to an extent), but that has cost me dearly in the here and now.
In 2010 I also destroyed my right knee in a training accident. Tore my acl, mcl, pcl, and meniscus, and had significant bone bruising all throughout. I got incredibly lucky and had a tremendous surgeon, so I recovered far better than I should have.
Earlier this year, I did SOMETHING to my left knee, I had swelling and some instability. Fortunately nothing was torn, and it's mostly back to normal.
Now between my lower back and my knees, my hips have started giving me problems.
For what it's worth, I recommend everyone to find a good deep tissue massage person, and stick with them. Chiropractors are good when the problem is something mechanical that just requires an adjustment. But those adjustments don't do you much good when there is soft tissue damage pulling it right back out of place. Read up on myofascial treatments.
To quote Mark Rippetoe, injuries are the price we pay for leading an interesting life.

All I have to say is to the younger set on this forum.
Learn how to stay active and eat a sensible diet while you are in your teens and 20s. Not saying you gotta be a gym rat but be smart about it.
It is a helluva lot harder to lose weight, get in shape, and maintain it all the older you get.

I have bony feet, so ever since I was a teenager I've had corns and callouses, and a very slight bunion as a result of my right foot being perhaps a half size bigger than my left. The only other things I have problems with are my ears and sinuses, which I suspect is caused by breathing other people's cigarette smoke for most of my life, so ever since I was about three or four years old I've had to contend with things like glue ear, swimmer's ear, catarrh and earaches, and I have tinnitus and slight hearing loss in my right ear because of the number of ear infections I had as a kid.

I think I popped open my twice repaired hernia. This is not entirely shocking as I have Bethlem myopathy, which is a neuromuscular degenerative disorder. As the surgeon told my wife, my muscles looked like Swiss cheese. I expect that I will have to have a full repair this time. You know, because I haven’t spent months at home recently.

I often get shoulder ache and pain--not for a while though, it seems to have fixed itself. Also sometimes get sore knees and feet, usually if I cant get a seat on the tube home and I'm stood up for ages. Wlaking I'm fine, but stood still for longish periods kills my knees.

I have hypermobile shoulders so they can be a pain. Currently my left foot is all f***ed up from surgery to install a couple of screws to fuse a few bones and repair a Lisfranc injury. It's also f***ing up my back since all I can really do is f*** all.

Right knee and ankle from playing basketball on concrete
Ankle i'm pretty sure I came as close to breaking it as possible when I landed between two people and my ankle bent in then bent out in one quick motion
Since then, if I start to walk for a long time I will eventually start limping

I second the advice to lift smart, not harder. I get recurring lower back pain due to many years of incorrectly lifting heavy things at work. I’m a produce manager and constantly lifting and breaking down pallets of produce. At work I’m usually fine; I don’t really feel it until I get home. I also have occasional pain in my right shoulder. I believe it’s a repetitive motion injury from my year and a half of bagging groceries.

Got ankylosing spondylitis. Basically apparently a rare type of arthritis. It causes the spine to fuse together, which is more or less happening or has happened to me at this point. Also affects the neck and several joints... again, either already happened or is still happening. Just a constant parade of aches and pains, though admittedly right now it's just lowkey noise at this point, but still pretty bad.
Had surgery to at least fix the worst parts of it. Surgeons took out a part of my lower spine, then put screws to connect the bits back together. It got rid of the worst pains for most part, but there's still other parts. Kinda regret not asking the doctor back then if I could keep the piece of my spine they took out. And funny story, once I got out of the hospital and back at home, I was so starved for a smoke... admittedly not exactly the best habit to have in general and specifically since due to the fusing of the spine could lead to lung scarring due to the ribs being attached to the spine which can cause scarring later in life even without smoking... anyway, was so starved for a smoke that the moment that no one else was in the house except for me, I quickly went and took my walker out to slowly make my way to a neighborhood store and buy a few packs.
Anyways, here's how it is. Neck and back are still hunched forward, a little bit at best. Facing forward, I can turn my neck at 45 degrees at best. Neck aches/stiff neck all day every day. Like, it's even hard to look up. Can barely do that crack/pop noise in the neck anymore. Best I could do is look up, which really aches, which is done by pushing back my neck with my hand, to achieve just one measly pop, which to be fair really eases the pressure of a neck ache for me, even if the process is really uncomfortable.
Shoulders, due to me leaning forward, also lean forward in turn. Due to how my body is positioned, the tips of my collar bone feels discomfort. Swelling happens. I got medication for my condition overall, but I try to stretch it out for weeks since it'll affect my kidneys. Weeks are good, used to take them daily, and before the medication I'd have several advils and aleeves a day, and when the medication was given it was at least once a day. Now it's weeks. Either I got used to everything or it's an improvement.
Back is better. Maybe the worst is over, maybe the surgery helped things. Overall I can't lie down on my back anymore, due to the shape of my body now. Definitely the worst is over. Used to have this jolts of pain that happened when I lie down. It'll wake you up, or ruin the chances of me getting to sleep. Like it feels like the muscles on my lower back gets yanked down hard. Any tiny bit of movement sends another one, over and over again. And that includes breathing. Worst one that happened was a few months after surgery. Lied down and those pain jolts happened. Knew I needed some painkiller of some sort, but couldn't get up. Even just the slightest turn, or a too strong gasp for breath sent another jolt in my back and then no one was at home and I spent a few hours willing myself to not move until someone came back and hand fed me a pill.
Legs are pretty bad. Both can't really stretch straight anymore, but left knee is more noticeably bent. Left leg sticks outward a bit more than the right. Felt it with my hands too, it definitely does. Like in the hip. Ankles and knees had swollen up some time; got fluid drained out of my knees. It was yellowish. For the ankles, took steroids. Hardly wear shoes anymore; either flipflops or sandals now.
So all in all, managed to adapt to things, but it still sucks. Only turning 32 in a few days... so the following years are gonna be interesting.

My knees are getting bad, but they’re better than they were in August/September where I was literally in pain sitting down.
My back was really bad the second half of 2019 but chiropractry has really helped.
My shoulder and neck have been bad for years but acupuncture helps that.

Says he feels bad in concert because he can’t acknowledge anyone because he can’t move to do it.

Didn't play basketball or football every day, but when I did, I played on hard concrete. Hence, as of about three years ago into my early 30s, I can't play any sports that involve slashing or jumping forward. One or both knees will get stiff, go unstable for about 4-6 days and lingering pain will follow. The best part is when I kneel down, and the cracking sound in my left (and right) kneeeeee could be heard from a block away.
Also, I'm pretty sure I broke my ankle at the batting cages a 4-5 years ago. I remember dragging my crippled ass NWO Style to the Emergency Room that night when the pain just wouldn't let up even while trying to sleep.

I’m 55 years old. My hearing is down to about 70% in the left ear and maybe 40% in the right. That came from years of concerts and car races and whatnot. My neck only swivels maybe 45 degrees to the left or right and if I do it too quickly it makes all sorts of cracking noises. Looking over my shoulder has been replaced with turning around and looking behind me. If I spend more than about ten minutes on my phone or iPad, my left wrist starts to ache. I have stands set up around the house that I can prop them up on and tappy tappy with my right hand. I can’t sleep on my left side or back because my snoring drives the wife crazy. I can’t sleep on my right side because it makes my hip ache and aggravates my sciatica. Two nights a week I sleep in the recliner in the living room to give my hip/back a break. If I walk more than about 10,000 steps in a day, my right knee starts to feel like it is full of ground glass. Not a big problem during lockdown but once the theme parks open up again I will be back to lurching around like a zombie.
But other than that, I am feeling fine.
