The consensus is that the two best WWE Royal Rumble matches came from the 1992 PPV and the 2001 PPV.
Which of the two is better IYHO?

It may not be fair to Flair, but I'm going with '01.

This is as close to a coin flip as possible. But Heenan's amazing commentary edges my vote to 1992.

Having just revisited them, '92.

Part of me wishes they called an audible and had Kane win the whole thing in 01. That performance made him look strong as hell and turned him back babyface.

Scott Keith gave that ***** and loved it.

These are my two favourites. The nostalgia of 92 (my fave year in wrestling) is enough to put it at #1 for me, but the fact 2001 is even in the running speak volumes to how great it is. If I was ten years younger, 2001 would likely be my favourite.

While I liked both, I went with the 1992 Rumble.

'92, '01 doesn't have Heenan on commentary.

I'm not gonna vote because I find both equally great, but they have different things going for them.
1992: the spectacle of it being the first TRULY important Royal Rumble (the first few were just bragging rights, this one had the gold on the line), Flair going (mostly) the distance at #3 (first time one of the first five made it to the end), Heenan's commentary.
2001: Honestly this Rumble could be looked at as a multi-act show. First part, warm ups to the comedy of Drew Carey entering, then dealing with Kane. Second part, the Hardcore Rumble with intermission afterward by The Honky Tonk Man. Third part, Royal Rumble normally until Rock is taken out and Undertaker shows up. Fourth would be Undertaker and Kane dominating until Austin comes out (though not to the ring), and then the conclusion once Austin and Rikishi both make it to the ring.

92 by far better undercard better commentary team better Rumble While tainted because of actions of one of the participants, 2001 did have the IC Title match (though one spot in that match is a "yikes" nowadays)

92 by far better undercard better commentary team better Rumble Really? Yeah Piper winning the IC title was great & the opener was decent but otherwise LOD vs Natural Disasters was, no pun intended, a disaster with the weird politics of LOD refusing to job to them so they could job to a team that didn't exist at that time made up of two guys who had had zero interactions with them. The less said about the Bushwackers vs The Beverley Brothers the better.

Over on Wrestling With Wregret, Zane gives 1992 a 'B+' and 2001 a 'A-'. I am okay with those rankings

Royal Rumble 1992 is historic in that it was the first one in which a reward was attached to winning the match. It also helped establish Ric Flair as a main event guy to the WWF audience.
