It's been a year since his last match and I'm starting to wonder if he's just gonna settle down as the color commentator until retirement like Tazz.
I really thought he was going to make an appearance in the Rumble since he should be injury-free by now but unless he returns after WM37, I can honestly picture him being done in-ring wise now.

I could see them doing a retirement angle with him, but who knows, really.

Probably not in WWE at this rate
Somewhere else? Potentially, depends on when his contract is up.

Then what will all the part timers do??
Honestly, good for the likes of him, Nigel and DB. They can still succeed in this business without wrestling.

It's going to be another Daniel Bryan situation.
As his contract comes closer to ending, he'll make a remark of wanting to wrestle again, either in a WWE ring or not.
WWE will want to keep him, and will cave to letting him wrestle again, rather than have him wrestle for someone else and make them money.

Most likely
On the flip side, the best thing is he's got a real nice carved out spot for when he decides to retire. I'm pretty sure they will make him a producer on top of actually training talent at the PC in addition to his announcing duties

I think he's done. He's 41 years old and had injury issues and isn't in the prime of his athletic career. He's got a nice gig doing commentary and I suspect he'll also start working at the PC. I don't know that I even want to see him anymore - he's just slower and doesn't look like the Joe I knew.

I also thought he was going to be a surprise entrant in the Rumble. I'd like for him to have at least a proper retirement match with Drew or Lashley or something.

He'd be a great mouthpiece for someone in NXT.

Man do I wish Joe was closer to his prime now.
You can just rattle off a list of dream matches prime Joe would have, not the least of which would be WALTER.
He's basically Tazz, a guy who came to WWE too late who WWE never could figure out how to use right. (NXT notwithstanding) Time to take it easy in the commentary booth if he wants, he's earned it.

Anybody here considering maybe he's happy doing play by play and it's his own decision to wait and see if he can heal up?
