I think what would have added to the Hogan / Bossman feud, is have Big Bossman beat up Fred Blassie.
The way I book it is, Blassie bought Hogan to the WWF in the first place, while over the years they don't share eye to eye in everything, Hogan still has a soft spot for Blassie his mentor, also Slick has history with Blassie, so it makes Slick more like a slime ball.
Have Blassie be a guest on the Brother Love show, and Bossman come out and we go from there.
It worked with HBK and Sid when Sid beat up Jose Lithario.

Eh, too many things have changed since Fred was last on TV in 1986.
Have to remember that to hype WM3, they completely whitewashed the first time Hogan & Andre feuded. So unless you read the magazines, you wouldn't really know Hulk had Fred as his manager. With Backlund erased from history, no clip of Bob accepting Hogan had changed his ways, which means no referral as he was ever a bad guy. Heck, a lot of your fan base (kids) probably haven't seen Fred as a manager at all, they would just see him as an old man who dresses very flamboyant and talked big. Add to that Fred was 70 and it was a huge risk to do that, even if it was with somebody safe. Blassie stepped away because he was getting older and his body was telling him to get off the road. His hips creaked, he couldn't turn his neck in certain ways due to all the bumps (none since 1981 when Andre shoved him in the angle with Killer Khan) and natural aging started to catch up with him. As crazy as some angles got (Savage-Steamboat for one), it was between wrestlers. (Even when Bruno got involved, he still looked like he could tear your ass up.) It wouldn't come off as sympathetic, it would look barbaric this huge dude hassling this older man. I mean, sure, Hulk would look like a decent guy for making the save, but at what cost?

Sid beat up Pete Lothario, not Jose, and it wasn't done in front of a crowd (nor on a video screen), so it's impossible to say how the crowd would have reacted.

It would have had zero effect and confused the ever loving shit out of everyone. They still don’t really acknowledge Hogan’s original heel run, they admit it happened, but it’s not part of Hogan’s lore at all.

Okay how about in 1990, Slaughter beat up Blassie to get sympathy for Volkoff. That is not too old to acknowledge that happened in the Expansion era.

Why do you want Blassie to get beat up so badly?

Why do you want Blassie to get beat up so badly? Well he was a beloved legend, any heel that beat him up would get great heat. Also I love when things come full circle, of a former protege who in Hogan's case, had a falling out with, but able to put that aside. It would add some depth to Hogan's character. He doesn't see eye to eye on a lot of things, but he still respects this old man and grateful for what he did for his career.

For context, the first time I heard of Blassie was Mania 5 in an exchange between Gorilla and Jesse Jesse: I had a manager, Classy Freddie Blassie! Gorilla: Yeah and he took your career right down the toilet. Why not have guys wailing on the Grand Wizard? Or Monsoon? The product of the 88 was an entirely different one than even 85. Legend or not, the fans just wouldn’t care.

According to Berry/Buck/Mills & Stipe he made a breakfast mess.
Also I don't see fans in 1988 caring about a heel manager from years prior who quasi retired but never officially turned face.

Also I don't see fans in 1988 carrying about a heel manager from years prior who quasi retired but never officially turned face. Same here, it would have been two years since Blassie was last seen and fans would remember him as a heel. It wasn't until late 89s/early 90s when they start acknowledging him as a goodwill ambassador type. I personally hated when they brought him back in like 2001 or 2002 and Stephanie McMahon said "D Von get the tables." I get there are things that are needed for the storylines and I'm sure Freddie enjoyed being part of the action but there really comes a point when you need to say "ENOUGH." Stephanie has known that man her whole life, she as a person outside of the show really thinks it funny or cool to pretend to want the Dudley Boys put him through a table? Like when going through the script, she really thought that was cool? It's sick and things like that turned me off from WWE forever.

The only thing in Kayfabe Steph did to Freddie was that she said he was going to die. The table part was in kayfabe, Eric Bischoff’s idea to have three Minute Warning put Fred through a table. Of course, Steve Austin saved the day before they even laid a hand on him by having rehired the Dudleys and just when they were going to put either Rico (Three Minute Warning’s manager) or one of Three Minite Warning through a table, Steve had Freddie yell: “D-Von, get the tables.”

Just the suggestion of it was one reason for me to stop watching. There's just some lines of real versus kayfabe that shouldn't be crossed. I guess I'm wrong to expect anything more from Stephanie.
