So I've been kinda on a kick for WCW 1989-1991 the last week, and I found one of the more interesting elements of that era to be the tag team of the Skyscrapers, managed by Teddy Long. Of course the original team of Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey built up a lot of heat for themselves with their early encounters with the Road Warriors in late 1989. That all petered out within a few months and ended with the Road Warriors wrecking "Mean" Mark Callous (whatever happened to that guy?) and "The Masked Skyscraper" in a Chicago Street Fight at WrestleWar the following year, Teddy Long deciding he was better off with Doom, and the team disappearing after the show.
Then at Starrcade 1990 the original team of Sid and Spivey reunite for one night only against The Big Cat and The Motor City Madman in what can only be called a PPV squash match that was so sloppy that if it happened in modern day WWE it would've resulted in all four guys being sent back to developmental. Sid was by then a Horseman, Spivey was gearing up to challenge Luger for the US Title the following year, there didn't seem to be much build up for it, they never teamed up again after it, their opponents were meaningless nobodies, and despite both Sid and Spivey being heels, they worked the match as the de facto faces. Nothing about this match makes sense, does anybody know why it happened? Were there plans for after this that got scrapped? Like a Sid face turn leading to a Skyscrapers-Horsemen program? Anything?

Ole Anderson at the end of working as booker for Jim Herd is the only answer to this. I have no knowledge of any backstage information about this, but at the time so little would be announced beforehand I would not be surprised if this was thought of an hour before the show.
