February 16, 1991 was a pretty busy day on WWF Superstars
of Wrestling - so much so that the big Tag Team Battle Royal didn't even get entrances on air!
The big one is the debut on the Brother Love show of a young Paul Bearer - looking very much like MyPillow's Mike Lindell.
That's the really big one, today we're celebrating three decades of Paul Bearer.
Later in the show we get a quick vignette giving us a glimpse at 'The Dragon' with - as far as my copies shows - no mention of his name. Just a waist-up shot of him in gear breathing fire.
We also get, attacking Rick Martell, "The Man with No Name," a masked Brutus Beefcake in his first appearance after the horrific parasailing accident. If you've never seen it, it's a really, really bizarre costume as Vince and Honky don't even hint that it could be Brutus. I don't know if the plan was to involve him in the Roberts-Martel feud that already had the blindfold match announced or if he would just be attacking random heels, but it's on par with the Arabian Butchers in 1997 in terms of "what the heck was that" type debuts.
This show also has the first airing of the "Mean" Gene and the Road Warriors at Toys R Us commercial, which is pretty funny and super nostalgic to see all those classic pieces of WWF merch in one place.
We also get what I believe are the very first seeds planted of the Rockers break-up in the tag-team battle royal as Marty accidentally eliminates Shawn, costing them a chance at the tag belts at Wrestlemania.
Also noteworthy about this battle royal is that it's won by the Nasty Boys who've been on WWF TV for literally a month-and-a-half and already getting a shot at the gold on the biggest show of the year.
So yeah, pretty consequential/noteworthy/interesting episode.
