Was the point of the Ultimate Maniacs just to main event Survivor Series?
I always thought it was odd that they paired macho man and warrior as a permanent team. Went all in with a team name and matching costumes and logo. The trouble to develop matching red and yellow attire and sunglasses and logo seemed like a lot to build up for one main event match. Had warrior not been fired before survivor series, would this team had lasted past that event? Was it angling for an eventual break up like mega powers did?

Hasn’t it been suggested in the past that Warrior would have been the champ heading into Mania 9 had he stuck around, or did steroid trial end all talk of that?

I guess maybe another Mega Powers or something, or maybe they figured Savage would be able to give Warrior some stability.

I don't know what the plans was for the Warrior, but I know the plans for Savage was for him to be in the broadcast booth.

I don't see them going for a breakup angle because I'm not sure they would go for a Savage/Warrior ppv feud for a 3rd straight year during 1993. But also I don't see the team lasting for a long time. I always felt that the Ultimate Maniacs team was initially used as a way of transitioning into Flair/Warrior and Savage/Razor singles feuds.

I could see Savage/Warrior vs Money Inc in place of Hogan and Brutus at Mania.

I could see Savage/Warrior vs Money Inc in place of Hogan and Brutus at Mania. They had a match at SNME (Warrior’s last before his firing).

The one where at the very end of the show right before sign-off Heenan gets a phone call and says that Warrior won't be at the pay-per-view (which I'm sure was a last minute insert). The SNME might have been something to either plant the seeds or test the waters for a Mania program.

I always felt that the Ultimate Maniacs team was initially used as a way of transitioning into Flair/Warrior and Savage/Razor singles feuds. If the plan was to put Savage in the booth, anyway, I could see them maybe having a heel take out Savage to set up a feud with Warrior, then you just claim some sort of injury for Savage and take him out of action. Of course, people would expect him to come back, but that was always going to be an issue.

If Warrior stayed, would Perfect still be heel?

If Warrior stayed, would Perfect still be heel? I think so; his face turn came virtually out of nowhere and was done on the fly as a response to Warrior being fired. It was all a bit awkward, but having Perfect back in the ring was always welcome.

If Perfect would still be heel, it would be a great opportunity to reunite him with Razor since they were a tag team in AWA.

Unless maybe Luger gets to beat Backlund instead of Razor.

The SNME might have been something to either plant the seeds or test the waters for a Mania program. It was. Both Warrior & Davey Boy were long gone by that point. Does anyone know when Vince knew Hogan was starting in February? Because having two babyface main event tag teams at the same time seems like an odd choice?

Clearly it would be a feud with the returning Mega-Maniacs (Hogan & Beefcake) over the rights to the name "Maniacs".

Reading this thread has made me realise just what a fascinating knock on effect Warrior staying would have on the WWF during this period.
If Warrior stays...
-Does he win the title, thus relegating Bret from the main event? - Does he heel? - Does a face Warrior mean Perfect and Luger remain heels. - Does a feud with Flair mean that Ric stays until his contract officially runs out in late '93. - Do you still need Hogan to come back to headline Wrestlemania? - Does Yokozuna still get rocketed to the title?

A talented guy like Perfect had to turn face sometime. I think he preferred heel but eventually the fans would cheer him not just for his talent but being a long time work who they were familiar with. He could get easily cheered over newer guys coming in like Razor and older guys who were bland like Backlund. I'm sure he would also be cheered against Made in the USA Lex if they feuded in late 1993 and Perfect hadn't turned face yet.

You could never make long term plans with the Warrior involved.
