I was going to do a KFC thread, but figured I’d open it up a little.
Herschell Gordon Lewis sure loved fried chicken.

My homemade favorite is just fried chicken marinated in fish sauce. No breadcrumbs or batter. Just chicken that's just essentially marinated in a salty liquid. Maybe a bit of calamansi to the mix. Crispy, salty, maybe some ketchup to go with it. Sometimes I'd buy a half kilo of chicken necks: it's got lots of skin and just a tiny bit of meat, so the marinade works great on it.
It's honestly one of the first, or pretty much the first thing I remember eating when I reached the point of remembering things. Hell, I remember the house I lived in thanks to it. A sort of apartment building, three homes next to each other. In front of the place an empty lot with tons of grass, blocked by a sort of half-fence/concrete that you can sit on. A table and a stove near the front door. I sat on the table, plate with a chicken leg, rice, and some ketchup.
It was either the chicken marinated in chicken, or a chicken that was first sprinkled with salt and heated until almost dry and then fried. Both taste essentially the same.

The old “Luckys” store (that got sucked up by Albertsons or whatever) had the best tasting fried chicken I’ve ever tried.

A couple years back I was visiting Memphis and went to Gus's Fried Chicken. Greatest fried chicken I've ever had in my life. If you're ever in the area I highly recommend it.

Years ago there was a place in Manchester called Splendid Kitchen. Hands down the best I've ever had and it's not even close. Still mourn its closure.

Nothing like juicy fried chicken. Favorite variants are Hot Wings, General Tso's and Honey Wings.

Was Chicken Holiday a Jersey thing only? They were good.
Even ShopRite's FC too....and ESPECIALLY the chicken at Pathmark.

For a while, I also liked street fried chicken. Like, just fried chicken being fried and sold in a hand-pushed cart of sorts. Just salt and reused oil and I guess some batter. Salty, cheap, yet flavorful. Best eaten hot, quality drops a ton if you cool it down.
Enjoyed those quite a bit, up until one incident where I got some pretty bad food poisoning out of it.
Other memories of fried chicken for me is that it was a hot item back in school. Fried chicken for around half a buck, no rice. Just eat it as is. I remember the stand at school where they cook and sell it often being swamped. You don't line up, you just make your way to the fence of the stand and call out that you wanna buy and hope you get one before the bell rings at the end of recess. Quite a few number of times I ended up hungry, or ate as we were lining up back to class.

RIP PathMark and their unusually excellent fried chicken.

My grandmother made the best fried chicken I've ever had. She was a housewife in the depression and has been dead for almost 20 years now but people have tried to make it (and other recipes she has written on index cards) without success. It is hard to describe what it was, it was a little sweet but with a little heat and so juicy.

Chicken Holiday is also a New York/Long Island thing. Never heard of it before but found this: www.menuism.com/restaurant-locations/chicken-holiday-10086/usAccording to that there are 30 in New Jersey, 8 in New York, 1 in Pennsylvania, and 1 in Texas.

I like to soak my chicken in Red Rooster hot sauce, then coat it in self rising flour and fry it. The skin gets real nice and crispy and the chicken has a nice kick to it. Also at this point, I only cook the legs, thighs, or wings. I don't bother cooking the breasts whole anymore.

Man, I miss fried chicken. I was diagnosed with a poultry allergy 20 years ago so my throat swells up whenever I have anything that comes from a bird.
