Do kids actually give a shit about toy stores anymore or is this just for depressed millennials? As a frequently depressed millennial, I couldn't care less. I mostly shop online. My 60 year old dad complains once or twice a year that there isn't a Toys R Us anymore for him to take his grandson to and spoil. My grandma used to take me and my brother as a kid for our birthdays with a $100.00 spending limit. We both got to do that on both of our birthdays. I'm sure she would have been quite sad had she lived to see its demise.

Most of my Children’s Palace memories oddly enough I associate with one near me as kid in STL County that was converted into a skating rink called “The Palace”. I was clumsy as hell actually skating, but I was a beast on their Tekken machine at least.

Wake me when Children's Palace makes a return. Watching Toy Story, Al's Toy Barn always gives me memories of being at Child World. Same feel, same lighting, aisles of many things! That’s where my brother and I would find the GI Joes and WWF LJNs that were hard to find. And the M.U.S.C.L.E. guys. Oh I'd find tons of those!

But the "horse" is only dead in the U.S because it was purposely killed. The brand is still doing fine in other countries including Canada. There's no reason it can't be revived in the U.S with this new management.

I honestly hope so (all joking aside obviously)....it was fun to take the kids there so they could get some Legos or so my daughter could get Barbie accessories. If this takes off, I'd LOVE to see them back, but I'm trying to not get my hopes up after a few attempts that didn't work out.

Ahh, the WH Smith model.
Fun fact, the only WH Smiths here in Ireland are at Dublin Airport and Dublin’s Harrods equivalent, Arnotts. Which is kind of like going into Harrods and finding a Bookstation.

They do, actually. Over here, Smyths is one of the biggest in the country and pre-COVID times, there were many kids going in and doing the whole “one toy as a treat” thing. And heck, Toys R Us wasn’t exactly unpopular either but because of the ownership, it was stripped for parts and sent into bankruptcy even though if you just changed the infrastructure and built a better website instead, it would be in business still. Yeah, the big issue with toys r us were the vulture capitalists Well, yes and no. They did experience issues that made it possible to get bought out in the first place. Having said that, vulture capitalism is a real problem in general that leads to a few people destroying the lives of a lot of people all in the name of the rich getting richer.

Oh yeah, like it wasn't like TRU were doing fantastic and were on sale but the stuff that would fix things weren't something that was going to be difficult to pull off. So instead of changing the parts to modernize it, they smashed it up to make it more shit and then sold the parts for scrap before just throwing it into a ditch and hope someone found it to try and make something from it.

There's a Toys R US in the American Dream mall... its pretty nice. I'd go more but they charge for parking and I ain't doing that.
