But you know, those poor hedge fund owners. They deserved all our sympathy earlier this year.

Do kids actually give a shit about toy stores anymore or is this just for depressed millennials?

Do kids actually give a shit about toy stores anymore or is this just for depressed millennials? They do, actually. Over here, Smyths is one of the biggest in the country and pre-COVID times, there were many kids going in and doing the whole “one toy as a treat” thing. And heck, Toys R Us wasn’t exactly unpopular either but because of the ownership, it was stripped for parts and sent into bankruptcy even though if you just changed the infrastructure and built a better website instead, it would be in business still.

Do kids actually give a shit about toy stores anymore or is this just for depressed millennials? Honestly they could make a huge comeback as they’ve been gone long enough for new kids to be in awe of the novelty. I mean they haven’t really gotten to experience anything like it. Could be a resurgence. Plus with the popularity of collectors, I think it’s a great idea.

Yeah, the big issue with toys r us were the vulture capitalists

Well this news will make Nav happy.
(Look up CDTV Productions' Top Ten worst Nav lyrics video if you don't get the joke.)

I hope it works, I hope there’s one near me, and I hope their selection of Elites are slightly more reliable than any of my local WalMarts and Targets.
That said., I feel like I’ve seen the “TOYS R US RETURNING” headline a few times since they went away.

I really hope it makes a big enough comeback so that AEW ditches Walmart for their exclusives.

My fingers are so crossed for this. I remember when I was I kid how in awe I was with it. My dad was a warehouse manager for them in the mid 80's. We went a lot. My two oldest kids remember it. My youngest was to young to remember being in a toy store. Hell right as Covid was started the wife and I tried to take a long weekend up to Thunder Bay Canada because they have a Toys R Us. That was the day they closed the borders. They turned us away.
They could be huge again. I remember reading the stores were profitable, but not profitable enough to cover the massive debt Bain Capital put them in.
So hopeful for this.

Parents already know to get toys on Amazon or at Walmart. They aren't going to go to Toys R Us. They associate TRU with high(er) prices. This isn't going to work.

Last time we got this promise, it resulted in some aisleway displays in a few random department stores. So........ I'll believe it when I see it.

I wonder if there is a reason why we haven't seen seasonal Christmas toy pop-up stores like Spirit Halloween.
You could even do Christmas decorations as a chunk of it.
I'm assuming someone smarter than me has figured that the numbers don't work.

Most kids don't want cheap toys Toys R' Us originally talked about potentially coming back in this kinda fashion from what I remember. There are pop-up Christmas decoration stores like Spirit though.

Wake me when Children's Palace makes a return. Most of my Children’s Palace memories oddly enough I associate with one near me as kid in STL County that was converted into a skating rink called “The Palace”. I was clumsy as hell actually skating, but I was a beast on their Tekken machine at least.
