Does anybody remember hearing this rumor? This was when the Attitude Era was starting to heat up(no pun intended) and to help capitalize on their growing popularity, it was rumored that Jerry Springer would be part of WWF's annual summer event.
For those of you who may know, Jerry Springer was a popular talk show host during that timeframe. Originally starting out as a political talk show(he was in fact mayor of Cincinatti), network producers thought the show was too boring for mainstream audiences. In an attempt to boost ratings, it's format was revamped to become more edgy and sexual in nature, featuring spouses committing acts of adultery, dysfunctional families, transvestites, prostituion, and hate groups. This formula seemed to work as it helped the show become what we know it as today.
That being said, to help with their crash TV nature and crossover into the mainstream, I can see how the WWF might've wanted to work something out with me.
My question is, what would they have Jerry do? Would it be a cameo appearance? Would it be a 20 minute segment? Would there be an angle leading to it? The only one I can think of that might make sense would be Marc Mero's failing relationship with Sable, which in turn, had him bring in Jacqueline and start an onscreen relationship with her.
Problem is, they were set for a tag team match that night against her and the mystery partner(who ended up being Edge). so it wouldn't make sense to have them appear on the show twice.
Anybody here have info on this because I know I read about it somewhere? I forgot the details though.
Thanks.
