I mean he is 47 so I guess I see what they mean about his age. That is an amazing narrative to go with. The old veteran who is still dope and can win the title but know he's up there in age. If Vince thinks Edge is old, wait until he sees 60+ something Tully Blanchard do a splash onto a guy 3x younger than him? Or watch a 60+ something Sting splash a guy 3x younger than him? Vince has no room to complain here. I put the blame on Edge not having a direction. WWE can't book a proper babyface return so they gotta resort to turning him heel.

Edge does look old. I’m all for him getting that “grizzled vet” one last run title reign, but something about his return at the Rumble until now just was not clicking. He absolutely shouldn’t have been the guy to beat Roman, I wasn’t feeling that idea at all. And I’m saying this as a HUGE Edge mark The irony is everybody thought Edge vs Reigns would be such a great program myself included. But it just hasn't worked for whatever reason. The only think WWE could get flak for I'd the booking of the Bryan feud between the Rumble and Mania. How that was booked made it almost a necessity since Bryan got all the momentum while edge lost all of his

After reading an article that Bryan's contract is coming up, is it too cynical to assume this change in booking is an attempt to get Bryan to resign?

It’s not even the most cynical theory in this thread. I think what’s happening is... This is Bryan’s last full-time run, and I think he’s winning the belt here and having a defense or two against Edge (maybe against some others like Rollins, Cesaro, Owens, etc.) before Reigns, who finally goes full killer heel after losing the thing, wins it back by absolutely liquifying Bryan into retirement.

I’m going to wildly speculate that they know Edge doesn’t have much left in the tank - so they are reluctant to book him winning a title in case he has to quit again. Also I wonder if the whole Christian in AEW deal has soured Edge in the mind of Vince.

If Vince “hates” Christian as much as people seem to believe he does, I don’t think Vince gives a f*** what Christian does. Sorry to be harsh on you specifically, but “Vince hates Christian for reasons, possibly ugliness” and “Vince is punishing Edge for something Christian did” seem like simultaneously incompatible concepts to me.

Also, not being funny, if Vince was so concerned about Christian jumping to the competition...he'd just have offered him a contract after the Rumble as all of us expected him to do.
He didn't so clearly he wasn't that fussed about it.

My only difference is - Bryan appears to have some creative control now, power in the booking and is loved by Vince. imo if he gets the belt, he will push to drop it to someone he likes who he thinks hasn't been pushed to their full potential - ie, someone like Cesaro or Big E.

Bryan isn’t exactly young in age or ring years either though. Only actual young guy in it is Roman.

Cena said something like "John Cena hates Dean Ambrose? No, Dean Ambrose hates John Cena. John Cena doesn't care about Dean Ambrose." I'm sure Vince likes Christian but doesn't even really think about him much. He was around for a combined 10-15 years and always had a solid spot. I think he just didn't see him as a big time world champion/main eventing PPVs level star. That doesn't mean he disliked him.

A lot of edges mania programs are just meh There isn't a lot of middle ground with Edge at Wrestlemania if you look at his history. His matches are usually either really good or really disappointing. For every TLC match, Foley hardcore match or Undertaker main event there's fighting with Booker over shampoo, the Jericho match that didn't live up to the hype or that never-ending match with Orton last year. Speaking of Jericho, for such a big star/great wrestler he has a really spotty record at Wrestlemania too. His matches with HHH/Edge/Punk/Styles/Owens didn't really deliver like they could have as well as middling matches with the likes of Regal and Fandango. His best Wrestlemania match was definitely against Shawn Michaels in 2003 and the one with Christian the next year was pretty good too.

Man they're worried about Edge looking old have they seen Tomasso? I mean Christopher Daniels just turned 578 years old and he's still pretty decent.

Oh I don’t think Vince cares about Christian much at all (and I didn’t actually say anything about the whole alleged blue dot stuff so I’m not sure why you are talking like I did) but he did give him a very prominent spot in the rumble where he reunited with Edge and then he goes off to another company. I could totally see that muddying the waters with Edge and his push.

From the Observer: "That was a late change stemming from a decision made by Vince McMahon that he wanted a number of things changed, including Reigns vs. Edge. Numerous suggestions were made by a lot of people, most of which were said to be bad. The one eventually greenlit was adding Bryan to the match, which everyone agreed to. At that point the feeling was Bryan would be the face. There was a lot of conjecture that Reigns would have been cheered over Edge, and that may have happened and may have led to Edge going heel, but we’re told that was not the reason the match was changed. One person close to the situation said that the age issue, not as much the number as the look of age (“he was looking older each week”) with Edge was a concerning point. But really, it was said it was just McMahon wanting to shake up the plans." *starts hurriedly searching for all the posts where I said exactly this would happen*

I bet Edge sneezed during the last booking session I heard he sneezed in Vince's sno-cone. the last person to do that was fired into the sun. someone did point out to vince it was a harsh punishment, he just said "we're launching the rocket at night, he'll be fine."
