With all of the talk lately about the cuts in WWE, the non-compete clauses, and the general treatment of those released it got me thinking about how AEW handles their releases. Are there non-compete clauses in their contracts? There really haven’t been that many people let go so it’s not common knowledge.

I’d be shocked if there wasn’t some sort of clause, however who knows how and when they choose to enforce it. But I’d be very, very surprised if they don’t have that option to use

I assume it's an option, but it's hard to really know. They haven't had any big time releases yet except maybe Bea Priestley and she went to Japan, and Ivelisse was never signed to a full time contract

They could but a non-compete clause in WWE means they pay you 90 days to sit at home and do nothing. I'm sure AEW could afford that but it seems like an unnecessary expense.

So far the only person released(that still kept wrestling) Was Kylie Ray I think and there was nothing of the sorts.
This non-compete clause is a very specific WWE thing.

They haven't had any times where they've cut a big player, most of the released workers were already working indies as well and they can't exactly force them to sit those out.

Considering they're already allowed to work indies while under AEW contract, I doubt there'd be a no-compete clause for that, at least. But a no-compete for televised shows, like what Lucha Underground had which prevented Ricochet from working in New Japan, might be possible.

Anything is speculation because they haven't let anyone go just because they felt like it, like WWE does every year. Every single person released had a reason they didn't want to be with the company, or had some issue outside of the company which made employment not feasible. If I were to guess, anyone not a full time employee would be able to work right away, but full time employees might have a 90 day clause. But who knows for real? Until it happens, it's all conjecture.

I think the most likely changes we'll see in employment are wrestlers' contract renewals coming up and a decision is made not to renew either by management or the talent themselves. But then that's just the contract coming to an end, not a release so a non-compete clause wouldn't apply.

We know they have different tiers of contracts, so it's probably going to depend some on that.
