...because CMLL doesn't care about Rush, Dragon Lee and Bandido because they're all melvins, but heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's Matt Taven? And his 780 t-shirts that nobody would ever wear.

I think with Rush, Dragon Lee, and Bandito they can live with it since they are still going to be booked in Mexico as they are draws in the country, but Taven they likely see that as ROH actively working against them

WOR:
Dave says there's a new promoter trying to sign exclusive deals with all the top talent in Mexico, both AAA and CMLL, and that now is the time to do it because both those companies are so weak due to the pandemic, and a lot of the wrestlers could use money, so they're offering them way more money than these guys are making.
"Because Rush is a key part of this, Rush asked his buddies from ROH and Andrade. They were really upset that all these ROH guys were working that show. They called ROH and they basically said 'stop them, stop them from doing this'"
Dave goes on to say that ROH told CMLL they couldn't stop them because their exclusive deals only apply to the US and Canada, and CMLL didn't like that answer. He talks about how the people in charge of CMLL don't know how modern wrestling works because they live in a bubble.

The more I hear about the Mexican wrestling scene, the more it sounds like a giant cluster. I wonder who the new promoter is? Should I put on my tinfoil hat and wonder if WWE is trying to do a Latin America based NXT?

CMLL has really become a shadow of its former self. The shows don't matter, the wrestlers are unmotivated and go through the motions, feuds start and drop for no reason, the titles are a joke and what few talent to be excited about like Titan are being wasted

Assuming the new promoter isn't associated with any of the major american companies I do wonder who it is because trying to sign all the top talents exclusively in Mexico is someone definetly with money or atleast backed by someone with real deep pockets and is someone willing to spend money.
But this is Mexico so it is probably some shady as f*** cartel backed shenanigans and what the time comes to pay up ...just suddenly vanish.

I don't imagine this will hurt NJPW/CMLL relations. Fantasticamania is from what I hear among the biggest money makers CMLL does. I do wonder how involved CMLL guys will be in Strong and other tours in Japan once the world opens up though. Would they shoot down any CMLL guy wrestling an ROH guy like Bárbaro Cavernario being pulled from BOLA a few years ago. Despite CMLL's current ownership having its fingers so far removed from the pulse of the modern wrestling scene that it's managed to lodge them firmly up its own ass, I think they have to be aware that any moves they make that potentially alienate NJPW would be the ultimate disaster for them - their guys make a lot of their money from things like Fantasticamania and being invited over for NJPW tournaments, so any moves that hurt the relationship would likely trigger a mass exodus.

I think that'd be a hard thing to hide from shareholders since, well, that's an investment they'd need to know about. They were trying to purchase NOAH and AJPW. So I would think they might have the same strategy in Mexico. I bet they’re keeping a close eye on all of this.

Not sure if this should be it's own thread. So Federación Wrestling (the new company that is getting these big names, caused the split between ROH and CMLL) will be announcing they will reveal their owner during a press conference. Interesting note is that the silhouette they are using is clearing female, leading to a good deal of speculation that it's Sofia Alonso. Alonso being the daughter of long time CMLL owner Paco Alonso who was in charge of CMLL since the 80s. Sofia was slated to run CMLL after Paco's death....until she was pushed out two months later.

I have been suspecting for awhile that NJPW might end their relationship with CMLL anyway. They work with AEW and Impact, who both work with AAA and each other now. There was no Fantasticamania this year (yes the pandemic, but that might have shown NJPW they don't need CMLL or something), and NJPW is run by a different person now.
Also, this could mean ROH getting in on that NJPW/AEW/Impact/NWA crossover stuff. They already work with NJPW and NWA a little bit anyway.

If New Japan and CMLL cuts ties, there will be a massive exodus and departure as Fantasticamania is many's biggest paydays of the year.

So Federacion Wrestling, the hot new promotion bringing in Rush and Andrade and Taven and all the rest, looking to shake things up in Mexico, has had its first press conference. The reception is... well...

My response to the first half of this thread: CMLL always thinks they have more leverage than they do and it NEVER works out when they try to throw their weight around. All that it did was take their biggest star and have him work for their biggest competitor, and even NJPW who are their closest allies and perhaps the only entity in the wrestling world who still has any respect for them completely ignored their mandate as it pertained to Dragon Lee.
In response to the second half I'll share my dad's thoughts: "This is what WWE hoped AEW would be."
The e-mail address and the misprinted poster are so bush league it's amazing.
It's hard to believe that AEW's sparkler ring explosion, is only the second most embarrassing thing to happen in wrestling this year.

The people in CMLL are so ignorant about the outside wrestling scene that Vince thinks they're out of touch Just like Vince they care a lot about the oldies (Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis).
