Team Taz as a whole needed this win more than anything else. It's hard to take them seriously as a threat when they argue about unfair treatment and lack of respect when they failed to beat up the "I Like Turtles" kid and his grandfather after months of chasing the pair. Yes, they're heels, so it makes sense for them to be whiny, but what's the point in beating up whiny people if it's a foregone conclusion?
We complain about AEW having too many stables, but I feel like Team Taz ranks at the bottom of AEW's stables in terms of credibility due to their win-loss record when it counts (I find wins on Dark to be nothing more than stat-padding), not to mention the constant teasing of breaking up and dissention (smellness).
So... they're going to keep losing instead of this being the start of the group getting rehabbed, is what I'm saying.

Yea surprised but good call. There’s only a handful of guys I was thinking Hangman could lose to at some point and still be ok, Cage was one of them.
Hobbs or Starks is due a big win too.

I dug it. In fact, I started zoning out and half paying attention because it seemed like a Hangman victory was inevitable until they said Cage won and I watched the replay.

I was expecting Hangman to win the match, so I was rather surprised when he lost. I'm glad he did though, because it helps temper him while giving Brian Cage a much-needed win for him and Team Taz.
Kenny vs Hangman doesn't need to happen just yet either. It's too early for that, and I'd rather save it for when the time is right so that Hangman taking the title off of Omega can be a more memorable moment, assuming they're going down that route.
As for the idea of Brian Cage turning face as a result of Ricky Starks costing him his title match against Omega out of jealousy, I like that idea a lot. If you want to book further tension within Team Taz, this is the way to do it for sure.

I think with Cage winning, you have two potential title matches on the build to Hangman's with Cassidy and Cage being matches you can either have at Double or Nothing or on a special Dynamite.

This feeds into Hangman needing to get that final level up before Kenny, going by that interview a few weeks ago he's still not ready to even talk about Kenny so I can't see him in canon doing well in a match against him now with that mindset. When he finally faces Kenny it'll be when he's ready to face all the baggage that's accumulated since losing to Jericho at All Out 2019 (and maybe even longer than that if we're going by BTE)

Cage was absolutely gagging for a good win at this point, I certainly wouldn't have had Hangman pegged as the one to take the fall for him though.

Right call.
Cage has been a chump since losing to Darby (ironically, he's in a similar place Darby was in a few months ago) and while I'm wishy-washy on how I feel about him as a performer, it's clear they have big plans for him, so it was necessary.
Hangman from a story perspective is still clearly reeling emotionally from the Kenny thing and isn't ready to face it head on. This one's going to simmer a while until storyline and real life collide to where it can be a show in front of a huge crowd.

AEW is so good right now that my (and many others) favourite loses and I'm not mad because of the storyline potential.

Seriously, when Cage set up the Drill Killer, I was like "Man, it'll be a shame when Page kicks out of that" and...he didn't. My exact thought. Between this and Penta, they did a good job of having losses mean something without hurting the other guy too much.

If this actually leads to Cage vs Omega, I can't say I'll be upset, that's kind of a dream match

I was in a rage and thought it was staged.

I was in a rage and thought it was staged. Do you want Brody and do you want him in a cage? Second time I referenced Greg Gagne in the space of a week.

It’d be an interesting development if he got into such a bad place even Dark Order was like “we don’t want to hang out with you anymore”. Whatever they do, I agree about him reaching that “next level” and coming to a point of resolve after all these years to finally face Kenny eventually.

I never even thought of Dark Order having to be the ones to set up boundaries with HIM. That's a really interesting idea. Page would be good at it, too. Still, do we want another "Hangman drinks to help with confidence" bit? Excited to see how it goes.

Just a guess but I’m actually w/ you on wondering if treading that ground (the drinking) is necessary. Very curious, very eager to see his journey from here. The Cage thing really was a stroke of weird, out of nowhere genius.

Heels cheating has to work sometimes. Even against top guys.
Team Taz needed this win badly. It completely shocked me and I am all for it.

I had no idea this was gonna happen. But it was a case where when Cage won, I had a moment of shock, but then followed by "Well.... of COURSE he wins, he's Brian Freaking Cage!"
The win totally makes sense, we just all forgot it was a possibility.

I love it. They're booking Brian Cage into his kind of ideal role as a constant threat who rarely holds the top rocker.
Not that dude couldn't have a championship run, I just don't think I'd book him that way.
AEW's Kane without the gimmicks.
