I'm just a big fan of anything that allows people to be themselves and find happiness. Unless it involves Arby's

I donβt identify on the spectrum much beyond βmostly straight, somewhat bi-curious at pointsβ, but happy Pride regardless because of all the awesome queer people I know.

When growing up as a young teenager in the Bible Belt I didnβt understand the need for a pride month. I personally had no real issues with the community, which was unusual for a young conservative from the region, but didnβt understand the need to increase visibility. Then, as I was watching the Rush Limbaugh TV show with my dad (yes, that was once a thing), I repeatedly noticed Limbaugh tell blatant lies about the community that I then felt compelled to explain to my dad why they were not remotely true. Fortunately, my dad isnβt the intransigent type that canβt be moved by logic and evidence, which became more important later.
Fast forward 3 decades and I turned out to live the exact opposite life cycle my dad predicted (to him people feel they have no heart if they arenβt liberal when young and have no brains if they arenβt conservative when older). This really worked out well for my kids as one is currently dating a non-binary individual and the other is transgender.
After the transgender son came out to us the second time (the first was when he was 3-4 but we really didnβt understand the situation at the time), I basically put my dad in charge of making sure my entire conservative family either got with the program or be prepared to be completely written off. Having various public advocates more or less sacrificing their own privacy in order to normalize the community seemed to go a long way towards making this all be something a staunch conservative like himself could embrace. Thereβs still work to do, however, as I recently still find myself having to argue with him that all of the propaganda on his favorite networks against transgender athletes is based on incorrect assumptions instead of actual science. It would be useful if the most visible transgender athlete was an actual ally to her own community, but whatever.

It probably says something about the visibility of bisexual men in mainstream media when the only example of a character I can think of in a recent show or movie is John Constantine from Legends of Tomorrow and that's it.

Bob from Bob's Burgers is bi, so there's that, at least, but yeah, it's not terribly common in media.

Weirdly enough the one that comes to mind is Frank Underwood from House of Cards...played by Kevin Spacey.

Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones was pretty high profile, and a heroic figure to boot, but you quickly start scraping the bottom of the barrel past that. I try to include it as much as possible in the stories I write but Iβm only one person at the end of the day, haha.

The Todd from Scrubs is bi sexual. Not the best role model but it was a name that popped into my head. Also not super recent but still

While we are on the subject, ALWAYS a good time to remind everyone that Constantine and King Shark are in fact a Canon Couple

Two come to mind, the first being Rawlins from the Punisher MAX series. Yes he was a monstrous bastard, but his sexuality was always presented as just an aspect of who he was, not tied into him being said monstrous bastard. The second is Detective Bayliss from Homicide Life On The Street. While he officially came out as bi in the latter part of season six, the show completely unintentionally formed a fascinating story arc for his character throughout the series, with his coming out as the culmination. In season 2, Bayliss is extremely disturbed and disgusted by the BDSM community he encounters during an investigation. He is portrayed as being repressed and afraid of a part of himself. Many seasons later, it is revealed that Bayliss was molested by an uncle when he was younger. This led to Bayliss confronting the uncle, and ultimately forgiving him through taking care of him in his old age. Having overcome this traumatic incident that led to him being repressed, Bayliss goes out with an openly gay man, and later dates a female detective. At peace with himself, and post coming out, he tries to start a relationship with a male cop that is in the closet, who is ultimately too afraid to come out, openly rejecting Bayliss to save face. It's way ahead of its time, and when you look at it as a whole, it is a tremendous and organic arc for the character. Trauma, repression, overcoming trauma, and finally open ness.

*deep breath* I donβt care where some one identifies in terms of LBGTQ2+. I look for connections not genders. Attraction is attraction *deep exhale* I think Iβve figured a few things out lately but holy shit this is a lot to verbalise it. I live in a redneck Manitoba town.
It is really nice to say this out load. Iβve been trying to work up to talking to my sister about this, hopefully soon

While we are on the subject, ALWAYS a good time to remind everyone that Constantine and King Shark are in fact a Canon Couple Holy crap are you serious? I haven't followed comic book Constantine since Jeff Lemire's Justice League Dark like 5-10 years ago. I knew Constantine was bi because they revealed it in the Brian Azzarello run of the late 90's/early 00's, but King Shark? I mean, thats such an odd couple.
