Yeah a real life one. It's been played in storylines in both TNA and now in WWE with the Forgotten Sons And it is also the reason he got in trouble and Forgotten Sons sank as a whole... weirdly enough though his partners got fired or de-pushed and he just... didn't. Really? Huh. You'd think they'd mention his military history at least once or twice on-air. Dying over this thinking about when he was a face in TNA and couldn't walk out to the ring without someone being like "green juice, rubber moose, got the scoops, gunner supports the troops"

I don't know how someone wrestles for 15 years and still sucks this much but still gets opportunities

I guess the question now, if they are set on pushing him.
Which WWE title he wins.

Sid was imposing and had a ton of natural charisma, though. He had that it-factor. Jaxson Ryker has as much personality as a wet paper bag. He has a shit-factor.

Whatever you say about Sid's in-ring work, that dude had a look and a presence to him. He was also charismatic.
Gunner has none of those things. He's the definition of mediocrity.

See if he can pull it off. I assume they’re going with the military veteran angle for a face character. Not thinking he’ll be over with live crowds though, unless he has a good month here. TNA tried running with "I'm a veteran cheer me" for him years ago. It was quite bad. I don't think anyone here wants "I'm a veteran cheer me" 2.0.

Technically, NXT did try running with the Forgotten Sons as faces riiiiiight before the pandemic. They had a short, incomplete feud with Grizzled Young Veterans where they played the proud US veteran card.

They had a fun sprint with Imperium around this time too. Of course, you have to keep in mind that this was Blake and Cutler doing the work.

Like I'd said in another thread recently, there always seems to be a correlation between how liked/disliked a talent is and how strong their push is perceived to be, which is all rooted in the core cynicism of the WWE fanbase (which is the case by WWE's own hand, just to make clear that I'm not "fan-blaming"). People hate Ryker, so he's getting a rocket push by simply beating Elias once by countout (not even clean). Meanwhile, someone like... let's say as a hypothetical example, Adam Cole, would have to go undefeated and win every match clean for six months for him to get that same perception, because he's popular but also represents a lot of things that could work against him.

In Ryker's case, they're comparing it to the pushes given to his former teammates. Compared to them, and a lot of far better talent who've been called up, he's Roman Reigns.
