He looks like Matt Cardona after he spent five years in prison. A preview of Matt in 5 years after hanging out with Nick Gage.

Like I'd said in another thread recently, there always seems to be a correlation between how liked/disliked a talent is and how strong their push is perceived to be, which is all rooted in the core cynicism of the WWE fanbase (which is the case by WWE's own hand, just to make clear that I'm not "fan-blaming"). People hate Ryker, so he's getting a rocket push by simply beating Elias once by countout (not even clean). Meanwhile, someone like... let's say as a hypothetical example, Adam Cole, would have to go undefeated and win every match clean for six months for him to get that same perception, because he's popular but also represents a lot of things that could work against him. In Ryker's case, they're comparing it to the pushes given to his former teammates. Compared to them, and a lot of far better talent who've been called up, he's Roman Reigns. This actually got me curious about how well Ryker's partners have fared, relative to him, across his entire career, and oh man: -Murphy: Push in a low-end NWA affiliate, had the top title in said promotion around when he first teamed with Gunner, lost the title half a year later, floated miserably through the Immortal storyline as a nobody before losing a Loser Leaves Immortal match to Rob Terry and then being ignored for six straight months before he was quietly removed from the website entirely. Was never seen or heard from again. -Kid Kash: Showed up, teamed up with Gunner, was a warm body in some X Division video game clusterf***s, was never seen or head from again. -James Storm: You can't tell me that 2013-and-on James Storm hasn't been a complete tragedy. You just can't. -Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler: We know how this ends. Too early to tlel but for now, both have never been seen or heard from again. When people got paired with this dude they were either decently big deals or prospects with some upward momentum. Nobody has survived officially teaming with this man. Everyone's career comes out lesser for being associated with him, and he keeps trucking along unperturbed while being the most aggressively nothing guy imaginable.

Ryker is like an entropy-specd mage from Dragon Age, only the debuff auras affect his partners, too.

TNA tried running with "I'm a veteran cheer me" for him years ago. It was quite bad. I don't think anyone here wants "I'm a veteran cheer me" 2.0. Technically, NXT did try running with the Forgotten Sons as faces riiiiiight before the pandemic. They had a short, incomplete feud with Grizzled Young Veterans where they played the proud US veteran card. Then came the brief Smackdown run where they tried leaning into Forgotten Sons’ veteran leanings, but making that into a heel thing, complete with the “the views expressed don’t reflect those of WWE” thing and an assumed feud with the New Day.

Right, when people thought they were going to squash New Day not just during the start of Black Lives Matter, but actively BECAUSE of Black Lives Matter, because WWE are cartoon supervillains.

I mean, given the obvious intent behind Retribution, it's not like that's a gigantic reach.

I wonder where people would get that idea, the McMahons have never, ever used WWE programming as a soapbox for their political leanings and aspirations.

Yeah, I mean, they’ve never attempted to Stand Up for WWE at all… 😉
