Just got back from the AFI show...
oh my GOD what an amazing show that was. Seriously. And Davey...yeah, officially solidified as the most gorgeous man I have EVER seen. I was eyef***ing him the whole show...and just...god I love him. He is my idol.
Anyway, here's a breakdown.
The Dear and Departed: They were alright...they weren't anything amazingly special...but they were a decent listen. Not a whole lot different from the other post-hardcore bands out there...the singer looked like one of my managers when I worked at Wal-Mart, only with longer hair...so that was something. In any case...they weren't GREAT, but they weren't particularly bad either. Their last song showed a lot of promise...it was pretty interesting.
Sick of it All: These guys...WOW. They were AMAZING. They ruled Cain's Ballroom with an iron fist. Their set was an absolute blast...and those guys have stage presence that I couldn't believe...they just rocked the house like crazy. Played an amazing set of songs that got everyone jumping...they started a couple of pits, and one thing that struck me was the singer was awesome about it...I don't like pits myself...but after every song, he would ALWAYS stop to see if people were okay in the pits...he would always ask, and always make sure everyone was fine...and at one point someone needed some room, and he asked the entire crowd to move back a few feet...and in general he was just a real class act. And he's all about togetherness and love, y'know...for being in a hardcore punk band...but he was just in general a very amazing person, and he was a lot of the reason I totally loved their set.
AFI: Now to the meat of the night...and why I was there in the first place....amazing. Absolutely. f***ing. Amazing. Seriously...I'm not honestly sure whether all the Coheed shows I've been to or the AFI show was better. Seriously...wow. First of all...as I mentioned...I am basically in love with Davey Havok. Seriously...his mannerisms...everything...he's just beautiful and an amazing performer and just person in general. But anywho...their set was absolutely awesome...everyone in the crowd knew the words to every song...my throat is still sore from singing and screaming the whole time...and they played two songs that I absolutely did not expect...in "The Leaving Song"...which they rarely if ever play live...so that one was unexpected, and amazing to just see Davey and Jade up there on stage together playing a beautiful song...then they played their cover of "Just Like Heaven"...which was REALLY surprising...and amazing. But their set in general was absolutely amazing...and during "God Called In Sick Today" Davey got in the crowd and was standing on them and hanging from the rafters and singing and it was just an amazing and beautiful moment...not to mention during the faster songs Jade and Hunter are all OVER the stage...and Adam is KILLER on drums. They are absolutely flawless live...Davey's voice is beautiful live...and just...wow. It was an amazing, amazing, amazing, fruityfruityDELICIOUS show. Seriously though...one of the best nights of my life, to be sure.
Not to mention we got a lot of information about recording music beforehand at a guitar/music in general store...and we got more word out about our band to a few people.
I was hoping to maybe meet a guy there...there were a few there that were AMAZINGLY hot and I couldn't but shoot glances toward them...but they were probably straight or taken...so that was unfortunate. Oh well, another time for that in any case.
It was an amazing night though, to be sure.
I am extremely happy right now.
Yay!
