Cuz the guy could hold his own in the ring, he can talk, he can get reactions.. I mean if they were gonna strap up Khali, Jack Swagger et al around that few years there's no reason MVP shouldn't have gotten a shot at it.
I dunno, I was just thinking about his initial stint with them (I don't really watch anything current so thinking on the past is all the rasslin I know anymore) and it seems a missed opportunity to not at least try it.

He would've been the perfect feud for John Cena at the time.
At least we got Better Than Utopia in the SVR games I suppose.
I still think he could have a run with the title if he turned on Lashley and had a bunch of guys guarding him. Almost like a Godfather type character. He wouldn't have to wrestle much... Just be a boss character that nobody can get their hands on.

He was absolutely ready for it from late 07 to mid 09 but WWE for some reason never pulled the trigger. The losing streak didn't help in late 08 but he became a pretty decent face after that and probably should have challenged Orton for the title that year.

Watch his TED Talk on YouTube from a few years ago, he claims on that WWE told him outright they could never put the world title on him because of his criminal past and potentially not being allowed into other countries. However much truth there is on their part to that I don’t know. But yes, he absolutely should’ve gotten a run in 07-08 before all the losing streak BS.

I remember hearing he had attitude problems. The whole losing streak thing started because he supposedly insulted one of the drug testers.
I thought when he lost the US Title to Kofi in 09 he was going to transition to the main event but he ended up in a tag team with Mark Henry. He got pretty popular as a face during that time.
Don't get me wrong i think he has had a great career and he's been doing great work since he came back and all because he wanted his son to see him wrestle in the WWE. I'm happy to see him get another shot and he has hit it out of the park.

Agreed. No good reason he couldn’t have been strapped up.

MVP got in trouble for something IIRC and that's why he didn't. WWE had a lot of guys at the IC Title level who all should have gotten chances in main events but never did during that time period. MVP, Carlito, John Morrison, Mr. Kennedy and Lashley all didn't get used to their full potential.

I read MVP has, or had, the same heart condition that I have (W.P.W)

Meh, it's easy to say this in hindsight. Find me one thread prior to 2021 saying he should be World Champ.
It's quite possible he is more mature and a better promo compared to back then.
Vince and co had him in the right spot (midcard).

International tours are very important and having a world champ who cannot go on them is not good. MVP could have been a transitional champ but as a long term champ he would have to lose the title every time a tour is coming up, harming long term storylines. Same with Jeff Hardy.
