This year's edition of the biggest annual sporting event in the world is under way. The grand depart from Brest was about an hour ago.
Quite a few chances for the yellow jersey in three weeks in Paris. Headlined by last year's podium of Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic & Richie Porte. Also expected to feature are Geraint Thomas, Richard Carapaz, Julian Alaphilippe & Miguel Angel Lopez.
Ineos are the favorites for the team title with a stacked team that realistically have 3 or 4 riders who could win the race overall. Jumbo Vizma are the other team expected to contend. Of course one crash can change the plans of every team in the blink of an eye.
This is a clockwise year with the Alps up first then the Pyrenees in the final week before the traditional end in Paris.

That one crash occured when someone decided to stick her sign out right in Tony Martin's path and the whole field got f***ed. The Tour organizers are planning to sue her for that shit.

And Tadej Pogaçar now only has to manage is advantage until Paris. Amazing performance by last year's winner in a day that turns everything on its head right after another day that did the same.

Going into the first rest day, last year's podium is all over the place: Pogacar is in yellow, Porte is almost 48 MINUTES behind, and Roglic did not start stage 9 and has gone home. Pogacar's nearest GC rivals (Rigoberto Uran and Carapaz) are over 5 minutes back. Thomas also has a decision to make on the rest day if he'll continue, currently 39 minutes back after a Grupetto finish on Saturday.
Coming up to start the 2nd week: a long flat stage on Tuesday with a cat 4 and some uncategorized hills before a likely sprint finish, and then Wednesday is back to the mountains for the double climb up Mont Ventoux....
