One recent match from Japan that I think is a bit underrated, but it blew me away, was Okada vs. Tomohiro Ishii at the G1 26. I think that’s easily one of those Ishii matches that really made him a bigger star and it showed how versatile Okada is. Ishii just refuses to put up with Okada’s antics, chopping the shit out of him when he tries the Rainmaker pose- “F*** this stablemate crap, until the final bell rings I’m coming for that ass”, he’s like. Okada fights hard but he clearly wasn’t expecting this.
Also, for my favorite women’s match, it might be kind of a smarky choice, but Shinobu Kandori vs. Akira Hokuto, 1993? The hype is so real. Flair vs. Asuka at Mania might be my runner up.

The most recent Hiromu Takahashi vs El Desperado match springs to mind.
Takahashi rips at El Desperado's mask, and Despy pulls his own mask off the rest of the way and stares him down, stonefaced, with Hiromu looking like even his crazy ass knew he f***ed up. Hiromu had his number that night, but I suspect in their next meeting, Desperado finally gets the upper hand, in part since I suspect Takahashi isn't going to go heavyweight, exactly, but that he probably has some dates with Ibushi, as well as maybe the NEVER title.

Thinking back on my wrestling fandom, a lot of my personal favorite (or, at the least, most memorable matches) are not ones which are very likely to appear on anyone else's. Sure, I love the TLC matches, HBK/Flair, Bryan/HHH, and others that are remembered as some of the greatest matches of all time, but, just off of the top of my head, some of my personal favorites include: - Roadie vs. 1-2-3 Kid, IYH 2: I was just talking in another thread about how this match stands out in my mind as one of the best matches of my formative years watching wrestling. It ends with a top rope piledriver of all things in 1995 WWF, and is just a really good match. - Yokozuna vs. Vader, IYH Beware of Dog: This clearly is not a match that critics would heap a lot of praise onto, but it's an ultimate battle of the behemoths, and perhaps the single biggest influence in 6-year-old me becoming hooked on wrestling. Even now, I go back and watch this one and find it entertaining. It has negative workrate but, sometimes, pro wrestling is about the spectacle and this match was damn sure a spectacle. - British Bulldog vs. Bret Hart, IYH Season's Beatings: This one is marginally more likely to appear on a list like this, but I personally find it to be the single best match in Bret's entire career. I guess we are all products of when we started watching wrestling, but damn if I don't have fond memories of 1994-1996 WWF, even though it's one of the most derided eras in pro wrestling history. Bret, and Bulldog at IYH 5 is god damn amazing, I'd say its my number 2. And now for the hot take... I can't stand their Summerslam 92 match haha. I'm of the same mindset regarding SS 92. I wonder if Bret was telling the truth and Bulldog was high as a kite that night it would explain why their subsequent matches were better

Bret v Piper at Mania 8 is my all time favourite. A classic in my eyes. Others are Austin Aries v Samoa Joe at (I think) Slammiversary 2014 and the Takeover debut of Shinsuke v Zayn

I'm not even trying to be funny when I say the Chamber of Horrors match from Halloween Havoc '91. The whole event was a big deal because it was Chattanooga (I grew up about an hour from there) and I was so pissed my parents wouldn't take me. My aunt felt sorry for me and bought/taped the show so I could watch it. Watching it now, of course I realize it's terrible. When I watched it then, Abdullah being electrocuted scared the shit out of me. So yeah, as awful as it is, the nostalgia surrounding that match makes it really fun to watch.
