I was browsing Michelin restaurants near me in NYC and was looking at the menus. One of the 3 star ones had a tasting menu of 650 dollars. It got me wondering what would be the most I would spend on a single meal not assuming some large amount of cash coming my way. Probably 100 bucks plus tip and it better be damn good.

I paid almost thirty bucks to try the Chili’s boss burger. That’s my limit.

I've done two high end restaurants like that. The first was Moto in Chicago. It is now closed (the head chef killed himself). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_(restaurant)The second was Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian in Disney. I don't remember the exact dollar amount for each. As of this writing V&A is 235 per person, for the base menu without wine pairings or upgrades. Moto was in that same ballpark. (The wiki mentions $240) Moto had a lot of creative food. As it says in the wiki it was "known for creating "high-tech" dishes which incorporate elements such as carbonated fruit, edible paper, lasers, and liquid nitrogen for freezing food." Odd presentations, interesting flavors. Definitely memorable. V&A was a bit less cutting edge but very high quality small plates, top notch service, etc. Those types of experiences are just not for me, I have way too much financial regret mixed in. Like, was it really worth spending $1000 on two meals? No, probably not. We could afford it at the time because we hadn't had our child sucking the life out of our bank account with his daycare expenses. Everyone raved about Alinea in Chicago but I just could never bring myself to drop the dough on it while I was there.

My wife and I went to a high end steakhouse one Thanksgiving and spent around 300. Charcuterie plate appetizer, drinks, pricy steaks with al a cart sides and dessert.

For myself and my girlfriend, it would be 250-300 range.

I spent $80-something on a Ramen Pizza from a place in Hoboken once. Honestly it was probably worth it as the thing was massive, weighed at least twenty pounds and took me a week to eat despite giving out a few slices to friends and family to try.

About 20 bucks, a little less than that, and only if it's a good buffet. Less than 10 for myself if not a buffet.
Also ate one of the cheapest Michelin star meals before, which was soy chicken.

Outside of pizza, I once spent $40 on breakfast because Steak n Shake no longer served breakfast and we were too hungry to walk to Hardee's.
Like... It was okay, I guess, but not $40 worth.

750 including tip for 7 of us at The Steakhouse at Circus Circus in Las Vegas. It sounds weird for those who know Vegas since Circus Circus is a dump but it has one of the best steakhouses in that city. It's a really cool old school steakhouse with phenomenal service.
I paid the bill since we were out there on vacation and I had done incredibly well playing video poker that morning while I was waiting for everyone to get recovered from their hangovers.

5 bucks.
Anything I cook for myself is going to taste better anyway, and to quote Jason Newsted "I've got plans for those millions, and it ain't for f***in' sandwiches."

Back a few years ago dropped 150 for myself and my girl's meal at a place. She got a steak and I got a seafood platter. The steak looked good. The seafood was ok. But growing up in a family where there was always someone with a shrimp boat I'm picky about my seafood.

I am 5'9 and weigh probably 160 at 36...I have never really been much of an eater and have always treated it more of a necessity instead of an act of pleasure. I typically eat until it kills the craving and routinely miss breakfast and lunch...With that said I am notoriously against going to restaurants (especially decent high dollar ones) when I am literally burning money for fuel.

I ate there as part of a wedding party in 2017. No idea how much the final bill was, but there were 12 people in the party. Amazing food.

I can't justify to myself spending more then £20 at a restaurant for myself
I would sooner buy ingredients if I would be paying over that and make something myself

If I had the money..... something like Moto would definitely be something I'd try. I'm picky though. so I'm afraid I wouldn't like it. It seems interesting though.

My wife and I used to go to Gibson's Steakhouse in Chicago with her and my parents every October. We all got married during the month. It was somewhere between $150 and $200 for the entire meal. That's probably the most and it was only once a year. LOL

I'm with you. Its like, why buy a 6 dollar cheeseburger when a 20 cent pack of ramen is going to fill you up just as much.
