Frantically flicking between two channels here in Australia as the Boomers are 10 points up in the Bronze medal men's basketball game against Slovenia & Aussie Nicola McDermott is leading the women's high jump final.

Patty Mills drops a lazy 42 points on Slovenia & the Boomers have a first Olympic medal after four times previously losing the bronze medal game.

One more day to go, and suddenly the United States are within range of taking the most golds lead from China. China only leads by two now on 38-31-18, while the US are on 36-39-33, breaking the 100 medal barrier for the fifth straight Summer Olympics and almost certainly locking up the overall total win. The hosts Japan are almost certainly home for 3rd with 27-12-17, while βRussiaβ (20-26-23) and Great Britain (20-21-22) are safely in the top five. Australia (17-7-22) are similarly safe in 6th ahead of Germany (10-11-16), the Netherlands (10-11-12), Italy (10-10-19) and 2024 hosts France (9-12-11). 93 nations have now gotten medals, with Bahrain, Botswana, Moldova and Saudi Arabia leaving their runs VERY late and picking up their first medals today.
The US will almost certainly get one of those golds against Japan in the womenβs basketball final, and theyβre also in two boxing finals and the womenβs volleyball final. China meanwhile are only in one boxing final (separate from the two that the US are in) and a team rhythmic gymnastics final. It is definitely not out of the question that the US can get the medal count win on both criteria.

Just want to say how proud I am of Team GB. Iβm not the biggest sport fan, but acquiring 63 medals is no small feat. Weβre not leading any tables, but itβs a great boost for national pride.

france won the mens handball, defeating champions denmark 35-23, in a very close second half!
apart from TWO atrocious referee decisions within two minutes of each other in the second half, almost costing the french too right until the last minute it was anyones game, but a botched last attack by denmark denied them an equalising goal!

The fall-out from the womenβs Modern Pentathlon continues. The German Coach of the athlete who was winning until a horse refused to cooperate has been kicked out of the Olympics. What for? Appearing to punch the horse. Jesus wept.

MONGO!" anyway the track cycling started with a big ol' crash in the womens omnium, some rather hard landings for the riders involved but britains laura kenny is still there

This is gonna be close. With the gold in womenβs basketball, USA is tied with Slytherinβ¦ er, China for most golds. USA have three shots to take golds, womenβs volleyball and two bouts in boxing. China has one shot left at gold - a bout in boxing.
Letβs see.

The womenβs volleyballers came through in the clutch, and now thereβs no need for tiebreakers, the United States will win the medal standings outright with 39-41-33 (113)... Less medals and gold medals overall than in Rio, but still just enough to hold off the surge from China and their 38-32-18 (88... which really fits their whole βlucky eightβ thing).
