It's almost been 10 years now, since Gail Kim decided to go into business for herself.
What was she trying to achieve? Looking back now, she's barely acknowledge in WWE. History is pretty much scrubbed. No acknowledgement of holding it down for the women's division. And the fact she he two WWE tenures and neither are acknowledge, what was the real purpose of this?

She wanted out of her WWE contract, plain and simple. She hated it there, she knew they wouldn't release her if she simply requested one (at least I don't think she ever put in a request that had been rejected or whatever), and she knew TNA Impact would sign her for sure.

She wanted to get fired and she wanted to make the company look foolish in the process, probably to get fired but also likely spite. It's honestly not defensible, and I say that as someone who was sympathetic to why Gail was frustrated to begin with. Her ego was out of whack, as evidenced by the sheer audacity of her subsequent TNA run that made Triple H look like the king of modesty.

Simply put, she was sick of trying to dumb down her style to the rest of the Divas at the time. The only women's wrestler on the roster who was technically better was Nattie and, even then, the overall style during the Divas era was about filling in a piss break.
Compare what Gail Kim got to do in WWE vs what she got to do in TNA. Gail Kim's legacy is fine - she's just one of a multitude of talents that WWE squandered because they either didn't know what to do with her or she wasn't meant to be central to the little diorama they were looking to set up.

She just wanted out. I don't think there's anything else to it really as she clearly hated her time there and seemed happier at TNA.

She was beyond fed up and she basically gave them no choice but to let her out of contract or else she was likely to keep making WWE look foolish by keeping her around.
But definetly one bigger divisive moments either it was a good f*** yea Gail moment or what a complete unprofessional.

Didn't she end up kinda hurting their womens divison by steam rolling it?

Shorty ego is all the way trash
She did all that because she secured the bag by marrying her husband and knew TNA would love to have her back to be a big fish in small pond where her reign of tomorrow was never-ending

It was her “what is the point?” breaking point. The women were told to get out of the ring in less than a minute and I think it was just the straw that broke the camels back. By its nature her self elimination was unprofessional, but I always kind of roll my eyes whenever people complain about that. It had no impact on the match and wasn’t even noticed by most people. It was only when she talked about it on Twitter that it picked up some steam with fans.
I can’t imagine how frustrating it was for the women back then. 2011 in particular seemed to be a particularly bad year, with matches lasting about a minute or so, if they were allowed to wrestle longer matches they were very limited what they could do, spanking became a go to spot in matches for some reason, and they had crap like them doing the rockettes dance.

Remember that scripted drama kickstart thingy? That's all I can think of when talking about Gail Kim.

Wait i thought her contract expired and so it was going to be her last night anyway. She was told to come up with own elimination and just did it. Pretty sure she said afterwards she told Johnny Ace what she did and he laughed about it.

She's no better than Austin Aries. Total unprofessional and malcontent.

I get the frustration of being a woman in WWE during that period, where even the ones with a drive to perform and entertain just weren't allowed to. But it's tough to have sympathy for someone upset at the plight of women in WWE when her idea of a respectful treatment is that utter clown show that TNA became to bend over backwards for her. Wait i thought her contract expired and so it was going to be her last night anyway. She was told to come up with own elimination and just did it. Pretty sure she said afterwards she told Johnny Ace what she did and he laughed about it. No, she actually got held onto for two months after the incident to ride out her contract. That was her way of quitting, something she explicitly announced as such on twitter, but WWE told her no and held her to every day they had left on her before she was finally free.

When I saw the pitch video I was legit like..okay they really want to go for the LU look hell they got Karlee Perez to star in it but clearly they overlooked the little factoid that keeping up that quality is f***ing expensive and they were never gonna get that capital through kickstarter.

Yeah and at the time they were letting anyone go if they asked for their release... and besides the I should literally be treated as the most important person in the entire world run in TNA... she also knew what she was getting into when she re-signed with the WWE. She was there before and knew the attitude for women's wrestling and it wasn't like now where they at least pretend to care. That's not even getting in to how super botchy Gail was in the second run in the WWE... cause even against the girls that could work she'd be super sloppy... it might have been a case of "if they're not going to care I'm not going to care" but... you can't really do that in Wrestling when you are literally responsible for the safety of your coworkers like that...

She, just like Christian came back to WWE for "retirement money" As said, people forget how sloppy she was during her 2nd run. Once she married her husband and her contract was coming up, she was willing to burn that bridge to the ground knowing TNA would take her back Her TNA run ended up stomping everyone. Winning the title the night you go into the HOF and then forfeiting the title putting no one over cause of a back injury. Beating up The Dollhouse 3 on 1. Standing tall against Havok who was double her size. Just a lot of shit

She should have been the face of the womens division.
Man, I didn't realize how bad the Divas era was until now. The 2009-2012 era was real bad. Because they were obviously PG so they couldn't even do the "TV-14" stuff that Torrie, Stacy, even Trish did. So all they were basically doing was having some of the worst 3 minute matches possible and carrying around a horrendous looking butterfly title.
The likes of Kelly, Maryse, The Bellas (Nikki improved later on) and Alicia Fox? They might be nice women in real life but... Yikes. I'm so glad we are past this era.
