If it's the start I can see/hope them making the start of Rampage to be like THE event of the week where major business goes down.

There's good arguments to be made for all the times brought up, I think. You can either get it over with so it doesn't hang over the show like the Sword of Damocles. Or you can build it up to the very end to keep the anticipation at a fever pitch through the entire show. While the halfway point seems like the least obvious of the three ideas, it also worked out REALLY well for AEW when they did the same with Sting's debut on Dynamite.
What if.....he doesn't show up? I mean, WWE wouldn't have to worry about them doing another United Center show since I'm pretty sure there won't be a United Center. You know that episode of The Simpsons where Bart and Lisa are on rival hockey teams? And how the crowd erupts into a riot and tears the place apart when the game between them ends in a tie because they hug it out? That's what happens to the United Center if there's no Punk.

If he isn't first, I think they'll need a banger match to start. The crowd will have sat through the Dark/Elevation tapings first, so hopefully, that will have curbed any need to scream CM PUNK at every opportunity.
I like the idea of debuting him in the first segment though. Let the debut breathe and run a little long if the crowd pushes it that way. The hype of him starting the show might catch fire on social media and convince a few people to tune in as the rest of the show continues, too.
Either way, I hope AEW stacks this show with the hottest talent. It might get some fresh eyes onto AEW.

Tony has said that The First Dance is going to be an 'atypical' hour of AEW tv. What's more atypical than opening an AEW with something that isn't a match?
I don't care who you put out there; if someone has to go out in front of a full United Center after the last few weeks and put on a match, it is going to BOMB hard and get totally derailed by the crowd.
AEW has never shied away from putting the biggest thing right at the top of the show- Rampage next week starts with Punk.

I think the entire show is spent building to Punk appearing. The advertised closing segment is Darby Allin facing off with/calling out The Best in the World and if there's still 3 matches like this week, we get filler segments in-between first showing Darby waiting in the rafters with Sting and then someone arriving in a car at the arena to answer him. Just continue teasing to keep the big moment in the back of people's minds throughout the show until the moment arrives with Darby in the ring. At least that's how it's usually done in pro wrestling.

But honestly; It has to be at the beginning. Otherwise the crowd will be chanting CM PUNK throughout the night!

He's teased early on and comes out at the end. You more or less _have_ to make the crowd feel like there's the slightest chance that he might not. Hell, you might even have to drag out a different or past-their-prime Chicago Guy (D'Lo, Animal, Aiden English) at first to get them on edge.

He's teased early on and comes out at the end. If MJF's feud with Jericho ends on Wednesday, he'd be the perfect guy for this. Have him do the CM Punk troll at the start, then paid off at the end with the real Punk.

I hope a high pitched version of Miseria Cantare plays at the end, the crowd is confused yet interested, and out comes CP Munk.

I think he should go on first for a number of reasons, one being that you need to be prepared for the segment going long with how crazy the crowd reaction will be. He may not be able to speak for five minutes.
And if I was booking his theme song and entrance, I’d play Miseria Cantare in its entirety without him coming out. Then hit Cult of Personality and he makes the entrance.

I think a lot of this depends on what else you have for the card. Do you have big enough matches beforehand to carry the show before he comes out?

(I put that final one for you dorks who vote that way so never let it be said I don’t give the people what they want!) People have talked about it across various threads but let’s get a good old fashion FAN poll going and get this down in facts and statistics. You can write your fantasy scenario about how it would go down but the important thing is to answer the main question; we know it’s happening…but when. SWERVE, he comes AFTER the show is over! No one will ever see it coming, I swear to God! That's right CM PUNK HAS JOINED THE RING CREW! >->
