JR should only work on PPV. Only just bring him for the big matches/moments, according to the article it was JR himself who wants to step out of the booth.

I know a lot of people will be happy about this, but I've loved him on commentary. I'm glad he's not stopping entirely but I'm a little bummed.

Well he is turning 70 and He done more than I thought he was when he signed. I thought he was doing more backstage stuff for the company off camera. JR should only been PPVs as it was. Tony is great for weekly TV or shown he been in AEW.

It is his long time history with Tony that makes having him around special. I will miss that dynamic.

I'll say this: JR had some bumpy moments early on, and can be a bit "old man yells at clouds" sometimes, but over the last year-plus he's really been on his game and still does one of the best jobs in the industry of adding gravitas to a big situation. I definitely give him credit for that.
Still, I think he knows his prime is behind him; it'll always be a good story that getting hired by AEW kind of saved him from being in a really dark place after his wife's death, so hopefully this is the kind of transition he wants, rather than the times it seemed it was being forced on him in previous years pre-AEW.

His voice still brings a certain gravitas to big matches, so I'd love to still hear him do the PPV's and maybe special Dynamites. But for the regular weekly shows, he can step away and let Excalibur and Schiavone hold down the fort. Maybe bring in Paul Wight or Taz if they really feel like they need a third person in the booth.

For every major gaffe that he had, he still had moments where he would remind you that he was Jim f'n Ross and the best to ever do it. I could tell things were changing, though, because so many of the "big calls" were going to Excalibur. Not that they shouldn't, as Excalibur is the future, but I think even Jim knows that his role was to get things established and to teach Excalibur how to do it.
I'm glad they're keeping him on, and I still hope he has some kind of "Coach's Corner" type segment where he sorta does like a kayfabe John Madden style breakdown of certain wrestlers and what makes their style work and that kinda thing.

Get him on for big matches + moments where a heel does something particularly dastardly to a babyface.

I honestly want him in the Gene Okerlund position of interviewing bigger names during the show. Like, having someone like JR is important, and I know he doesn't want to sit at home alone during the week after the passing of his wife. Keep bringing him to TV and find something for him to do on screen, but yeah moving him out of the booth is going to increase my enjoyment of the product even more.

Other than some rather odd things he’s said, I never had a real problem with him at commenting in AEW, but it was probably time. I’d say put Tazz in there. Or Jericho if he loses to MJF. And he should totally still do the sit down interviews, he is fantastic in that role. I’d imagine this would appease some people who were constantly annoyed by JR. Or they will turn their attention to someone else. Lol.

Phasing him out from full-time commentary is the right decision. He's not the commentator he used to be, but at the same time, I'm not against having him call a match here and there.

When JR was on, he was AWESOME. But unfortunately, he seemed lost out there more often than not and just bitchy.

I do still enjoy him even though he’s not in his prime. He’s especially good interacting with Callis or during stuff like MJF matches. Glad he’s still doing some special events, and it’ll be a sad day when he’s totally done.

He apparently hasn't heard this himself, at least on twitter.
Personally i do think he should move on. But damn hope it didn't leak before he knew. That would be actually awful.
