After over 20 years of only one brand being the face, the focus and the default in pro wrestling.. how lucky are we to have AEW? For sure I'm marking out because All Out was one of the best shows I've ever seen, but it's not like I'm giving credit where it isn't due. I routinely bring this up on here but I really did stop watching almost all of pro wrestling consistently in the early 2000's. I tuned in for some of TNA but I quickly washed out of their programming.
Guys, most of the best minds in the business (JR, Cornette, tons of others) were firm in their belief that no one, ever again, would be in the spot AEW is.
Truly a great time to be a wrestling fan. So glad I watched the show.

We’ve been conditioned for 20 years to believe that wrestling generally has to suck for the most part with occasional flashes of fun and brilliance.
Then a company came along and said “No, it doesn’t have to be like that.”
And we are so lucky for them.

Used to be you had to rely on the independent scene for good stuff while WWE churned out the regular milquetoast product. Then they went all in on their indies hiring spree and suddenly those companies lost all their top talent and everything kind of sucked. AEW comes along, stuffs NXT into a locker, WWE has to eat crow, and things start getting interesting again.
Also with WWE hitting their creative rock bottom, it couldn't have happened at a better time.

I started watching AEW regularly earlier this year and have been enjoying it, but after tonight I'm really f***ing excited about the product.

Long may it continue.
It feels good to watch a wrestling show and not be pissed off immediately afterwards cause of garbage booking.
AEW has made wrestling fun again.

I’m glad I gave them a chance and they got me back into wrestling. Great wrestling at that.

A wrestling company that puts on shows wrestling fans like? That listens to what fans want and does it? It seems crazy but we are very lucky to have a company that does that.

Having the two guys that the audience continually asked for as the top babyfaces without putting up with them having to put up with Cena. HHH, Undertaker, Reigns etc is all we can ask for.

WWE just got a reality check and needs to have a regroup ASAP. They have serious competition for the first time in almost 30 years. Unless they are content with their TV rights and Saudi money. But that won't last forever.
And it can't mean bringing back 50 year olds for one offs. They need a plan.

I don't feel lucky as I expected it, it's just balance at the end of the day. It was bound to happen with the state of WWE and the wrestling industry as a whole that another company would pop up. I also expected Vince to let a lot of these stars leave due to him not caring and even now I'm sure he's not gonna care due to his past.
So personally nah, I don't feel lucky. I just feel it's balance. The scale always tips to the other side eventually.

I'm not so much lucky that AEW is around is that I feel lucky to see them THRIVE as they have... through a pandemic... through EVERY hurdle thrown at them. To lead to tonight. A new era of wrestling is what it really felt like... not since WCW died have we seen something so beautiful. Legit competition. The world of wrestling felt like it was dying and under the thumb of a super power... it isn't anymore. Thank you god... thank you Miro's God too!

They're so close to ticking ALL the boxes it's not funny. They just need to get a few more women up to Dr. Baker's level (I'll give her the respect and use the medical title she's earned) and get a bit more spotlight on a few of their African-American talents and that's about it.
Like, I don't know how they're juggling the amount of talent they have and still have it feel like nobody is getting short-changed. I suppose it turns out you DON'T have to have a talent do a 15 minute promo AND a 15 minute match every week.

It was around the point that Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan's wedding was wrapping up that I thought no one was ever going to get how to make wrestling fun long term.
It's been a long 8 years, but we've finally come out the other end.

I think makes it so special to me that it actually legit captures my imagination. That’s hard to do with someone in their mid 30s and was basically a casual fan of modern wrestling and only ever watched old stuff.
It also feels special to watch a new promotion like this grow and start to really make waves.

That's all they need to do. They're 2 very different products. AEW feels like the evolution of the late 90s, matches are good, the storylines aren't dumb and they're adult oriented. WWE feels like the cartoony era mixed with a bad variety show.

I have watched professional wrestling in some fashion since I was 7 or 8 years old. I am 44 now.
I have a lot of things I love…hobbies if you will. My sports fandoms, collecting top notch bourbon, spending too much money on collecting Sports Cards, sneakers….
My love of wrestling had become nothing more than coming here and MST3King Raw in the live threads…and occasionally finding a worker I enjoyed….but pro wrestling had become an after thought for me.
Then I discovered NJPW…the Elite…the Super Kliq…and I thought “ok…this I can get behind. This is cool. And it’s fun.”
Then the rumors of AEW started…and I knew I was gonna be in on the ground floor of this. I knew it was gonna be something different…and I was gonna be along for the ride.
Tonight? Tonight felt like the culmination of all the time and emotional investment I’ve put into to this company since Day 1.
How lucky are we? I feel pretty goddam lucky…pretty goddamn fortunate..:to have latched my trailer to this horse.
Oh those things I mentioned off the top? Yeah…professional wrestling, and specifically, AEW is in the upper echelon of those now. The ONLY things I’ve spent more money on in the last year is Sports Cards. Ive sunk more money into pro wrestling in the last year…nevermind since the company started…than I had in the last FIFTEEN years with WWE.
I hope this made sense…I had dental surgery a few days ago and I’m pretty stoned on painkillers right now. I swear there’s a point buried in this rambling somewhere.
Goddamn I love this f***ing company. And I wanna adopt Tony Khan.
