So I pick up the new issue of New Avengers today. I'm enjoying it quite a bit, and actually mark out when the "new" New Avengers show up towards the end. Especially for Spidey in the black costume. There's obviously been a HUGE amount of hype for this, most of it centering along the lines of "Something REALLY BAD happens to Peter at the end of the Civil War to make him put the black costume back on". So in one of his first appearances in the costume, before the actual bad thing hits the stands, how does Bendis write him?
Exactly the same as he always does.
Yup, there's dark Spidey in his bad-ass black costume, quipping away every time he opens his mouth. Apparently, even if Thanos rips off Aunt May's head and eats it in front of Peter at the end of Civlil War, it won't affect Pete's ability to crack wise. Nice. In like two pages, Bendis completely soured me on a concept I was looking forward to. The dastard....

Civil War rocks.
But back to Spider-Man. He has always used humor and wisecracks to disguise his true feelings. Heck, the issue after Gwen Stacy died he was wisecracking. Putting that mask on and making quips helps him disguise the bad things in his life.
