In the sports section there is a thread at the worst athletes who were heavily promoted. One name came up was Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova.. while being really attractive to the eye, was not that great on the pro tennis circuit… expect when it came to the doubles when she teamed with Martina Hingis who at the time was the best women’s tennis player in the world.
So it got me thinking. Has there ever been a tag team gimmick where one member was clearly the match winner and the other member was the jobber.. kayfabe I mean. Not like the hindsight thing like The Rockers.
Like one guy takes a beating the majority of the match.. but then tags in the partner.. the partner hits the finisher… match ends.
One I can think of is Owen Hart and Yokozuna… but I don’t want to call Owen a jobber.

Enzo and Cass is the one that immediately comes to mind. Not a jobber but definitely a mouthpiece and muscle situation.

Did Mt. Fiji and Little Fiji ever do proper tag matches in GLOW? I'd imagine it would be like that.
Haku wasn't a jobber, and I would run a couple countries away if I called him one, but the Colossal Connection was kind of like this. As Andre usually came in to quickly finish the match.

Tom Zenk claimed this was his role in the Can-Am Connection while Martel took all the glory. But then he also claimed that they were the third biggest faces in the WWF in 1986.
What you’ve described here is basically the babyface-in-peril, so the most obvious example is the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express.

The best example to fit the OP I can think of is Santino and Kozlov? Although Santino got a few more wins and titles than your average comedy jobber, and Kozlov was considerably less protected than your average giant.
How about Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty's tag run?

My gut says Rock & Sock Connection might fit this description.

Two from ECW
Stevie Richards & Raven
And probably to the OP’s literal definition Mikey Whipwreck & Cactus Jack

I'd say the Rock N Roll Express fits this description, as it was basically Ricky Morton's entire gimmick to take a beating while trying to get the hot tag.

Rhyno and Heath Slater in their first few months together are probably the best example of this that I can think. Slater would get beat up, Rhyno would drag his lifeless body to the corner behind the refs back, tag himself in, hit the gore, and win.

It's close but I don't know if it would count because even though Roma always ate the pin he also always scored the pin when they won. In a shoot interview with Roma he said it was his idea for their matches to be booked this way in that he being the Glory would always get the pin but to balance it out would always eat the pin when they lost so that the Power, Hercules, was always protected. The Islanders kind of had the same deal. Tama the smaller cocky one would eat the pin every single time but also would get the pin pretty much every time when the won. Haku was always protected. Now that I think about it early Harlem Heat is a strong contender. I know it sounds ridiculous in hindsight with how great of a career he ended up having but Booker was clearly booked as the jobber of the team for like their first year before they started really getting pushed. Booker T/Kole would always be the one to take the fall when they lost. While clearly less talented Stevie Ray/Kane was booked as being the strong link of the team by far I guess just simply for the fact that he was bigger.

Hogan and Beefcake. They even made Beefcake being "the weak link" an angle during the build to Wrestlemania 9.

My first thought was Andre the Giant and "Quick Draw" Rick McGraw, who teamed several times in the early 80's in the WWF.

New Age Outlaws matches comprised of Road Dogg getting the shit kicked out of him before the hot tag to 'the best pure athlete' Mr Ass.

Teaming with SD Jones screwed him out of his hair.
