And before you say "Isn't that just what BoLA is?", I said G1, round robin style, not single elimination!
So, we've got lots of promotions out there now signing wrestlers to contracts, and interacting with one another on some level with potential crossover matches and storylines: AEW, Impact, ROH, NJPW-US, MLW, etc. Hell, we've got enough high profile indie names out there who'd make a splash, too. Let's smash 'em together and see what comes of it!
And because it'd be easy to say "Just book your 20 favorite wrestlers", here's a couple parameters:
-The tournament is comprised of an A and a B block, each containing 10 wrestlers.
-Any promotion you choose to involve must have at least two entrants, so that they can be represented in each block.
-Keep in mind: how you build your blocks matter! When making your choices, will you pick multiple people who wrestle the same style, or will you go out of your way to ensure there's a lot of variety in each block? Should different wrestlers from the same promotion be similar to one another, or radically different? What about face/heel dynamics? Do you want to avoid putting in too many wrestlers with "unbeatable" auras, to avoid anyone having to lose too much? Does endurance levels play into your choices? You get the idea.
Here's what I cooked up for a guys' tournament:
A Block
Bryan Danielson (AEW)
Andrade El Idolo (AEW)
Penta El Zero M (AEW)
Brody King (ROH)
Jonathan Gresham (ROH)
Josh Alexander (Impact)
Chris Bey (Impact)
Tom Lawlor (MLW)
Jay White (NJPW)
Juice Robinson (NJPW)
B Block
Adam Cole (AEW)
Rey Fenix (AEW)
Jon Moxley (AEW)
Josh Woods (ROH)
Dragon Lee (ROH)
Moose (Impact)
Ace Austin (Impact)
Alex Hammerstone (MLW)
David Finlay (NJPW)
Will Ospreay (NJPW)
My personal parameters here were that I kept it to people currently working out of the US and Canada during the pandemic; went with extra AEW due to them having a larger roster; tried to mix ages, in-ring styles, and some potentially interesting matchups; and avoided using current World Champions (Omega, Bandido, Jacob Fatu, Christian Cage)...plus, I tried to imagine how each promotion would book storylines to get their representatives to qualify. Would be fun to try this with a women's tournament, too.
