The one thing that saved the series was he very thing he hated. This franchise is doomed.

Welp, RIP the Friday franchise. Jason Lives no more. Still pissed off that we never got the finished version of the game because of this.

Betsy Palmer is great, but that first movie is a damned slog. Had they not shifted focus from Mrs Voorhees to Jason, it'd be remembered as more of an interesting curiosity cuz of the ending ala Angela in Sleepaway Camp.

Jason Voorhees is too attached to the Friday the 13th franchise for it to work without him.
You might as well make a nightmare on Elm street movie without Freddy Krueger as the main Antagonist.

Maybe they could do one where some psychopath reads up on the story of Pamela Vorhees and decides to "avenge" her death, using some crazed claim that what she did was "justified". Even then though you can only make one film with that unless the killer survives.

The only way I see a Friday 13th franchise working without Jason is anthology style, like the concept they had for Halloween.

This franchise is doomed. I read this in Crazy Ralph’s voice.

So Roy has not been redeemed like Silver Shamrock and the Freddy and Jesse Saga yet?

So if im understanding this correctly, the writer now owns the rights to the first movie (minus 1 scene he didn't write) and the name Jason Voorhees but doesn't own the actual character we all associate with Jason because that isn't who he created.
So since he doesn't own the franchise name and main character (just the name) couldn't they just call him something else like Tyson, Bryson, etc or just Voorhees and say screw it we still own the shit that people know, care about and pay money to see and make another film without needing the writers permission

This reminds me of when Madison tried explaining just what of the NWA Billy Corgan actually owned. Also, now more than ever, we need the phantom guy that approached Corey Feldman at a party, told him that the rights to the F13 franchise had been resolved, then promptly disappeared again.

I like the series but in no way does there need to be another movie of Jason killing people. They made the same movie over and over again anyway, and the 80s Slasher genre has been dead for decades.
The only real value left is merchandise and stuff like the video game.

I did really enjoy the fan film NEVER HIKE ALONE, though that was mostly one guy in the woods and built more on atmosphere and dread than on slice and dice kills.

I've heard good things about that and will have to check it out. But it was more a fan love letter sorta deal wasn't it?

Could they do another Freddy vs Jason? Maybe Freddy vs. Jason's Mom Mrs. Voorhees: "You were one of dem filthy teenage boys who tortured my son. Just because he wasn't looking like all of ye." Freddy:
