I wrote it briefly in another thread but I thought just for fun, I'd put it here and see what people think.
First big thing to say before I continue; no signed AEW talent allowed. No new signings like Kevin Steen or Keith Lee or whoever, this tournament is only for free agents or people not committed to any American company (which I originally had Mike Bailey in this thing but that can't happen so...).
Why? Well, two reasons, one we're finishing up the number one contender's tournament and the TBS tournament, and both of those have established talent and people who are signed. For this one, I want to go in an entirely different direction.
Which leads to my big selling point for the tournament; This should be one that reflects Owen Hart's life in the business and what I mean by that is considering he worked in the US, Canada, Mexico and Japan, it should represent those countries and the diverse talent. Maybe even reflecting the kind of wrestling Owen did. Take advantage of your AAA and New Japan connections for people not quite on a high level but could use the exposure.
You could even have people who have been on Dynamite before like Laredo Kid who the crowd knows and pair them with people who might work with them well, and I wish I was more of an expert but I don't want to come off like I am.
The tournament itself would be done on YouTube. A weird choice but also it wasn't like YT wrestling didn't work before (the women's tournaments) so you could have it live or record it and stream it later but the key thing they'd need to do is promote it on Dynamite and Rampage even if it's a little segment of the previous match and the one coming up. The show itself I'd take a lot from the CWC, have people talk about their careers and what Owen meant to them and what they want to do in the tournament, use the time you're exposing these new talents to its highest potential.
Also, the final would be on Dynamite because why not?
Do you like this approach or am I the fooliest fool to ever fool?
